Betty J. Egan

March 28, 1926 — January 11, 2015

Betty Egan of Kaukauna passed away peacefully Sunday, January 11, 2015 at the Appleton Medical Center. She was born on March 28, 1926 to Peter and Anne (Groeschel) Smith at Theda Clark Hospital in Neenah. She grew up in Appleton and graduated from Appleton High School. On December 29, 1948, she married Cleon Egan from Kaukauna at St. Joseph's Church in Appleton.

Although Betty suffered from heart problems all her life, she was an active person. In addition to being a terrific and supportive wife, mother and grandmother, she stayed very busy with various clubs and activities. Betty walked a few miles daily, played golf and belonged to several different card playing groups. She enjoyed hosting fabulous parties, traveling throughout the United States and Europe with Cleon, and of course, cheering on the Brewers and the Packers. The time Cleon and Betty spent with family and friends at their cottage in Three Lakes, Wisconsin, was very special to them. Betty was blessed with many wonderful friends and loved to spend time with her grandchildren. Over the years, she was active in the Elks Club, Fox Valley Golf Club, Women's Club of Appleton and Butte des Morts Country Club. Betty and Cleon spent many years “wintering” in Sedona, AZ, where she scored a hole-in-one and proudly brought home a trophy to prove it. Betty was always up to date on the latest fashions and loved to dress stylishly. She was a top selling Mary Kay beauty consultant for many years.

Betty is survived by her husband, Cleon; her sons, Dave Egan (Kanab, UT) and Dan Egan (Madison); her daughters, Patricia (Mark) Manske (Appleton) and Carrie (Michael) Gorges (Kaukauna); her grandchildren, Jeffers Egan (Wiemar, Germany), Marissa Manske (Rochester, MN), Paul Manske (Fond du Lac), Katie Gorges (Kaukauna), and Jack Gorges (Kaukauna). Betty is also survived by her brother, Charles (Shirley) Smith (Appleton), sister-in-law, Marion Mennen and many nieces and nephews. Betty was preceded in death by her mother, Anne Smith Marvin, her father, Peter Smith and her in-laws, David and Marie Egan.

The funeral service will be held on Wednesday January 14, 2015 at 11:00 am at St. Katharine Drexel Parish, St. Mary Site, 119 West 7th Street in Kaukauna with Fr. Jerry Pastors officiating.
