Bernie & Harvey were my favorite neighbors when I was a kid. Bernie reminded me that as a kid I occasionally snuck/broke into their house to “play” the piano. Years later, a Halloween while my parents were I visiting, a roommate & I dressed like old people tricked them. They had no clue who we were. I’ll never forget them! RIP Peace to Bernie & Harvey

I have enjoyed the past 10, I believe, years I have known Bernie. We go together like tea and honey! I have followed her from her home, to Appleton Retirement Community, to American Grand assisted living in Kaukauna, and finally to Brewster village, back in Appleton. We always had such good times together. When she was still in her home, we would cook meals together, do some gardening, and just have fun. I learned a few good recipes from her and a few new card games, such as SkipBo. After she moved to the Retirement home on Packard St. I started bringing her meals once a week and we would sit together at her table and she would compliment me on my cooking skills. She loved the variety of homemade soups and desserts I brought. Once at Brewster Village we continued the meals together once a week...and found a quiet place there to sit and eat. I took her outside for long walks in her wheelchair...even in winter...just wrapped her up good. She ...and I...just loved those long walks and talks. I feel blessed to have had her friendship in my life. We just hit it off...from day one. I Was fortunate to stop by Easter morning after church...for just a short visit...and be able to say goodbye to her as she had just passed...while I was attending church. I will miss her. her last words to me were...I'm okay, are you okay? And I said... I am. Then we said I love you...and she fell asleep....Sometimes in life a rose grows in a garden, and visits a heart it did not know...bringing a friendship that would otherwise never be seen. Bernie was that rose to me...and I to her .Rest now in the arms of the Lord.
