FOLTZ, BENJAMIN F.

Ben Foltz, age 80, of Appleton, died on Wednesday, October 29, 2008, at St. Elizabeth Hospital. Ben was born on September 28, 1928, in Marshfield to the late Benjamin A. and Gertrude (Skibbe) Foltz. Ben graduated from Marshfield Senior High School in June of 1946 attended broadcasting schools in Chicago and Milwaukee. He served his country in Korea (1951-1952) with the 45th Infantry Division. After his discharge from the service Ben attended the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point and received his BS degree in Education. Ben was very active in Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity and University Theater. He came to Appleton in 1957 and taught at Jefferson Elementary School for 34 years, retiring in 1991. Ben attended the University of Wisconsin-Madison to earn his MS degree in Education Administration. For 12 years Ben was actively involved in the Appleton Summer School programs as a teacher and administrator at McKinley Elementary School. He also taught at the Fox Valley Technical College and Lawrence University in their night school programs as a reading instructor. Since his retirement Ben enjoyed volunteer work. He taught in the Goal Program at Goodwill Industries, Menasha, for 16 years and served as a docent at the Outagamie Historical Museum. Ben has been very active at the St. Bernadette Parish for many years, acting as lector and instructor in the RCIA Program. He has always had a special place in his heart for people with disabilities and was an ardent advocate for them. Ben was a charter member of NAMI of the Fox Valley and the NAMI of Wisconsin, and served on the Committee of Clients Rights at Lakeview Manor, Weyauwega. Ben was a devoted husband and father. He is survived by his wife, Burga (Zimmermann) Foltz; his two sons, Stephen, Wautoma, and Gregory, Appleton; his brother, Robert (Geraldine) Foltz, Marshfield; his sister, Margie (Chuck) Covi, Wisconsin Rapids; his sister Donna (Herb) Bluhm, Marshfield. Ben is further survived by many nieces, nephews other relatives and friends. The Funeral Liturgy will be at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 1, 2008, at ST. BERNADETTE CATHOLIC CHURCH, 2331 East Lourdes Drive, Appleton, with Fr. Don Zuleger officiating. Friends may call at the Wichmann Funeral Home, Appleton, on Friday from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. and again directly at the church on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services. Interment will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Appleton. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established in his name. The family would like to extend a sincere thank you to the entire staff at St. Elizabeth Hospital, especially the staff in ICU and Dr. Fredric Hildebrand and Dr. Brad Lauderdale.
