Beatrice Catherine Schafhauser, age 77, passed away on Monday, October 04, 2010 after an 18-month battle with lung cancer. She was born in Jerico, Wisconsin, October 29, 1932, the daughter of the late Raymond and Helen (Heimmermann) Schneider.

Beatrice graduated from New Holstein High School and attended Marian College earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Medical Technology. She worked in the laboratories of St Agnes Hospital, Fond du Lac, and Appleton Memorial Hospital before taking time off to raise her children. She retired from the Community Blood Center in 1994.

On June 2, 1962 she married James Schafhauser. They celebrated 47 years of marriage together, resided in Appleton, WI and raised five children. Bea had a great devotion to her Catholic faith, and her family. She enjoyed reading the bible, praying the rosary, and attending daily Mass in her retirement, as well as attending the sporting events, performances, and concerts of her children and grandchildren. She looked forward to the monthly lunches with her former CBC co-workers, to STM book club and bible study meetings, and making her famous potato salad and apple pies for family gatherings.

Beatrice is survived by her husband, Jim, her five children, Heidi (Jim) Schmitz, Rachel (Todd) Miller, Hans (Beth Michels), Paula (Darrick) Rieder, and Becky (Ben) Steger and her 11 grandchildren: Jacob, Andrew, Noah, and Isaiah Schmitz; Shyla, Hannah, and Zachary Miller; Kylie and Emily Rieder; and Ethan and Ella Steger. She is further survived by her sisters, Imelda (Eldon) Watry, Mildred (Marvin) Thielman, and brother, Cletus (Rita) Schneider, in-laws, Donald Schneider, Janice Schneider, Gregory Sukowaty, Paul (Mildred) Schafhauser, Harrison Sturgis Jr., a step-brother, Norbert (Grace) Meyers, and many nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Raymond and Helen, Jim?s parents, Herman and Anna Schafhauser, an infant sister, Helen, sisters, Lucille Sukowaty, Pricilla Schneider, brother, Cyril Schneider, in-laws, Gertrude (Harold) Krueger, and Bette Sturgis, and nieces, Marybeth Watry, Cindy Schneider, Virginia Ortlieb, Linda Kasten and nephew, Mark Thielman.

The family would like to extend sincere gratitude to Fr. Falk, the STM community, and many relatives, friends, and neighbors who provided prayers, support, visits, cards, and meals to Beatrice and her family during her illness.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 9, 2010 at ST. THOMAS MORE CATHOLIC CHURCH, 1810 N. McDonald Street, Appleton with Fr. Gerald Falk and Fr. Jim Lucas officiating. Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Friday, October 8, 2010 at the Wichmann Funeral Home and again on Saturday at the church from 9:00 a.m. until the time of Mass.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Beatrice?s name.
