Barbara M. Porteous

June 10, 1946 — February 18, 2012

On the wings of angels, the Lord came to take our beloved Barbie to his heavenly home, where she will find peace and feel no more earthly pain. Her mother Margaret and older sister Sharon, along with loving aunts and uncles were there to embrace her with open arms. Barb's journey in life began on June 10, 1946, the second child born to Paul and Margaret (Kane) Porteous of Escanaba, Michigan. She was born with a loving and giving soul, which she shared freely with the ones she loved. Barb graduated from Appleton High School in 1965, and spread her wings and took to the skies. She lived in Florida for a few years, and loved every minute of her time there. She returned to Appleton once again, to be close to her family. Barb met the love of her life, Ed Salentine, and they have been together for thirty-two years. Wherever Barb was, Ed was always at her side. Together to the end, their love was one of the beautiful gifts of life that Barb treasured most. She was blessed with many friends, especially Carol Wenzel, who has taken wonderful care of Barb. Thank you, loving friend. Barb never forgot anyone's birthday, Christmas, or anniversary; she knew how to make everyone feel important. She was the family keeper of addresses and phone numbers – when we needed something we went to Barbie.

Barb leaves behind her one true love: Ed Salentine; three sisters: Mary Smit, Sheila (Joe) Arnoldussen, and Shawn (Carson) Remmington; a brother: Kevin (Lynn) Munger; her beloved nephews and niece: Ken (Marguerita) Webster, Godfrey (Laura) Webster, Larry (Carrie) Smit, Gene (Jen) Smit, Stuart (Mindy) Smit, Katie Smit, Joel Arnoldussen, Bret (Abby) Arnoldussen, Zachary Munger, Ryan Munger, and Seth Munger; her loving aunts: Shirley Kane, Marlene (Norm) Dianish, Mary Ellen Kane, Rose Kane, and her Godmother Ann (Dale) Erickson, and cousins whom she loved and cherished. Welcoming her to heaven are her mother Margaret Munger, sister Sharon Webster, stepfather Robert Munger, and step-brother Robert Munger, Jr.

The funeral liturgy for Barbie will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, February 21, 2012 at SACRED HEART CATHOLIC CHURCH, 222 E. Fremont Street in Appleton with Fr. Tony Ibekwe officiating. Friends may call at the church on Tuesday morning from 9:00 AM until the hour of the services.

Dearest Barbie, All the love you gave and all the love you still had to give will fill our hearts and memories, and you will always be near. Until we meet again, look down upon us all and know our love is with you always, as we know your love is with us. Good-bye for now, Dear Barb. – Your loving family.

Dear Barb, I will always love you, now and forever. – Ed

You've blessed me with friends, and laughter, and fun; with rain that's soft as the light from the sun. You've blessed me with stars to brighten each night; You've given me help to know wrong from right. You've given me so much – please, Lord give me too, a heart that is grateful, always to you.
