Barbara L. Langdok

June 10, 1923 — June 8, 2003

Barbara (Hagelshaw) Langdok
Appleton

Loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, age 79, passed away unexpectedly Sunday, June 8, 2003, two days before her 80th birthday. Barbara was born in Union City, Michigan on June 10, 1923, daughter of the late Joe and Mina (Wilbur) Hagelshaw. As a young woman, Barb moved to Battle Creek, Michigan, where she worked as a bookkeeper. During World War II, while serving coffee and doughnuts at the USO, she met the love of her life, Roger Langdok, a young serviceman from Wisconsin. They were married on November 11, 1945, just 11 days after he returned from fighting in Europe for the Allied forces. After the wedding, Barbara and Roger moved to Appleton where they raised 3 daughters, Linda Jo, Janice Ann, and Tina Jayne. Roger traveled extensively for his job and Barbara devoted her life to caring for her husband and family. They spent many weekends around the campfire in Norske, Wisconsin, in the company of family and friends along the shores of the Little Wolf River. After the girls were grown, Barbara and Roger traveled across the United States in their mobile home. They wintered at Ancient Oaks RV Resort in Okeechobee, Florida, enjoying the sunshine and socializing with old and new friends. Barbara loved to read books and write letters and she has written many stories about her life growing up on a farm in Michigan for her grandchildren. She enjoyed gardening and was especially proud of her roses. Barbara will be remembered as a tiny woman with a big heart. She was a wonderful listener, a loving grandmother, a devoted wife, a dear friend and a caring mother. She has missed Roger greatly since he passed away May 13, 1997, but family and friends find comfort in knowing that they are dancing together to the sounds of Glenn Miller among the stars. Barbara will be greatly missed by her daughters, Linda (Brad, his son Chip (Amy) and his grandsons, Zak, Andy and Aric) Schmeets; Janice (Ronald) Bergman; Tina (Jeffrey) Romenesko; grandchildren, Heather (Steve); Joey (Danny); Jesse; Bekah; Heidi; Josh (Mary Beth); Ben; Ross; and great-grandchildren, Oceanna; Cricket; Strider; and Hannah. The funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m., on Friday, June 13, 2003 at RIVERVIEW EV. LUTHERAN CHURCH, 136 West Seymour Street, Appleton, with Rev. Dennis W. Belter officiating. Family and friends will be received at the funeral home on Thursday, June 12 from 4 until 8 p.m., and again at the church on Friday from 10 until 10:45 a.m. The interment will be held at Highland Memorial Park, Appleton. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established.
