Barbara Ives McFaul Priem

March 6, 1948 — August 17, 2009

Barbara Priem, age 61, passed away peacefully with her family at her bedside on Monday, August 17, 2009 at the Appleton Medical Center. She was born on March 6, 1948, daughter of the late LaVern and Marie (Hartmann) Ives. She was raised in Briggsville Wisconsin and moved to the Appleton area in 1977. On December 15, 1978 she married Wilmer “Butch” Priem, they combined families, and continued to operate his family dairy farm in Center Valley. He preceded her in death on June 4, 1991.

Barb was very well known for sharing her love of home cooking while she was the Food Service Coordinator with the Salvation Army in Appleton. She had the privilege to work with many wonderful religious and service organizations. She developed long and valued personal relationships with her volunteers. Her family fondly remembers many stories, pranks, and anecdotes about “her volunteers”.

Barb was a veracious reader, enjoying books ranging from romance novels to mysteries. Her musical talent was known by many. She played the accordion from a very young age and “faked” the piano. She loved the water, and shared many memories about swimming in the lake by her family home.

Barb is survived by five daughters: Susan (McFaul) Lawver and her husband Scott Lawver of Shiocton; Lisa (McFaul) Schroth and her husband Terry Schroth of Hortonville; Veronica (McFaul) Christianson and her husband Ron Christianson of DePere; Retta (McFaul) Witter and her husband John Witter of Kimberly; and Anne (Priem) Hoelzel and her husband Jason Hoelzel of Black Creek; a step-daughter: Elizabeth (Priem) Whillock and her husband Rand Whillock of Minnesota. There are also several grandchildren: Brianna (McFaul) Kilsdonk and her husband Curt Kilsdonk, Ryan Lawver, Brandon Lawver, Alexis Lawver, Amanda Schroth, Dylan Schroth, Allyssa Schroth, Julia Hatton, Elisa Hatton, Jared Christianson, Conner Christianson, Will Witter, Amy Whillock, and Sarah Whillock; a great-grandson: David ; four siblings: Joseph (Sharon) Ives of Briggsville, Wisconsin; Warren (Gloria) Ives of Clermont, Florida; Maria (Karlton) Gempler of Wayzata, Minnesota; and Loretta Ives of Alpharetta, Georgia; and a niece, Melissa. Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a son Guy McFaul, and a grandson Noah Witter.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, August 22, 2009 at the Wichmann Funeral Home, Tri County Chapel. Friends may call directly at the funeral home on Saturday morning from 9:00 AM until the time of the service.

Mom,

Thank you for your passionate and giving heart. Your many talents, strengths, and dry humor will be missed by more than we will ever know. You led your life in a very deliberate and private manner, allowing your children to grow while respecting their lives. As our mother you were the strong and supportive tree, we are the branches forever missing our foundation. We sometimes are reminded that there are only problems that your mother can help you solve. Your presence will be forever missed and leave large holes that can never be fully filled or healed. We love you…
