August M. Kneepkens

April 1, 1927 — March 13, 2009

August Kneepkens, age 81, passed away on Friday, March 13, 2009 at St. Paul Home in Kaukauna. Augie was born in Kimberly on April 1, 1927, son of the late John and Martina (Van Beek) Kneepkens. On October 30, 1948, he married the former Margaret Mahn in Kimberly; she survives. For most of his working years, Augie was employed at Thilmany Pulp and Paper in Kaukauna. Augie enjoyed his garden at home, and always harvested wonderful vegetables, fruits, and berries. He also loved fishing, even if he didn't always bring something home. Throughout his years, he enjoyed traveling with his family, seeing the sights around the country. Augie will be remembered as a loving husband, father, and grandfather who enjoyed tickling everyone's funny bone. All that knew him enjoyed his sense of humor and quick wit – it will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

Augie is survived by his wife of sixty years: Margaret Kneepkens of Kaukauna; three children: Robert (Susan) Kneepkens of Neenah; Karlyn (Kenneth) Saffran of Appleton; and Susan (Bruce) Kritz of Blythewood, South Carolina; seven grandchildren: Karl Saffran, Katie Saffran, Kimberly Kneepkens, Denise (Nick) Lievano, Kevin Schwarzbauer, and Michael Schwarzbauer; three brothers: Alfonse (Dorothy Mae) Kneepkens of Kimberly; John (June) Kneepkens of Washington; and Donald (Jean) Kneepkens of Michigan; two sisters: Josephine Courchane of Rockford, Illinois and Bernadette (Phil) Bouressa of Kimberly; and a sister-in-law: Beverly Kneepkens of Kimberly. Augie was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Sylvester Kneepkens, and sisters Marie (Francis) Harley and Joann (Vincent) Burgess.

The funeral service for August will be held in the chapel of St. Paul Home, 316 E. 14th Street Street in Kaukauna at 3:00 PM on Monday, March 16, 2009. Rev. Walter Steinbach of Bethany Lutheran Church will conduct the service. Friends may call at the St. Paul Home Chapel on Monday from 1:30 PM until the hour of the service.

The family would like to thank Sr. Dorothy and everyone at St. Paul Home for the wonderful care that Augie received during his stay. The staff on Poppy Path made him feel so much at home. Your kindness and love will never be forgotten. Augie loved you all so much.

He even had a little sign in his room to help him remember you all. It read: Blessed are they who ease the days in loving ways, on my journey home.
