Art Hengsteler, age 93, passed away peacefully on July 6, 2012. Art was born in Menasha on May 7, 1919, son of the late William and Anna (Goeser) Hengsteler. He graduated from St. Mary High School, and entered the United States Army where he served in Kansas, Missouri, North Carolina, Florida, and Hawaii from 1942 until 1946. On September 11, 1948, he married the former Pearl Peeler in Charlotte, North Carolina. She preceded him in death in 2009. For many years, Art worked as a typesetter for the Banta Corporation. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, gardening, and taxidermy.
Survivors include two daughters: Beth (Kip) Kuester of Menasha and Chris (Paul) Stinski of Appleton; and a nephew: James Stromberg of Michigan. Art was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Pearl, a son-in-law Mike Walbrun, a brother William (Mildred) Hengsteler, sisters Arlene (Al) Stromberg and Joan Hengsteler, and several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
The funeral liturgy for Art will be held at 10:30 AM on Tuesday, July 10, 2012 at ST. MARY CATHOLIC CHURCH, 528 2nd Street in Menasha, with Fr. Paul Paider officiating. Friends may call at the church on Tuesday morning from 9:30 AM until the time of the service. Burial with full military honors will follow in the parish cemetery.
