Arthur H. Mongin, Jr.

February 23, 1908 — December 19, 2003

Age 95, passed away Friday, December 19, 2003 at the St. Paul Home. Art was born in Green Bay on February 23, 1908, the son of the late Arthur and Nettie (Schroeder) Mongin, Sr. He graduated from St. Norbert High School as well as the Professor Mayer School of Pharmacy at Marquette University in Milwaukee. On June 25, 1936, Art married the former Mabel Look in Green Bay; she preceded him in death November 23, 1996. Art became a Registered Pharmacist in 1930, and was a past member Wisconsin Pharmaceutical Association, the American Pharmaceutical Association and the National Association of Retail Druggists. On December of 1932, he accepted employment at Look Drug Stores, Kaukauna, and was a partner with Arthur C. Look from 1948-1952, and then with Lorraine E. Look, until 1957. He served as the President of Look Drug Stores, Inc. from May 1, 1957 until he semi-retired on April 1, 1977. Art fully retired fully on December 31, 1992. Art was the only surviving Charter Member of the Kaukauna Lions Club where he also held the offices of Past President and Past Secretary. He also served as a Past Zone Chairman for Lions Clubs International, District 27b, was awarded the Melvin Jones Fellowship and the Birch-Sturm Fellowship. Art was a Charter Member, Past President, and Bulletin Editor for the Fox Valley Golf Club, having been active from 1946 to 1993. He was proud to have penned "The Story of Fox Valley Golf Club" which was published in 1986. In addition, he was the author of two biographical sketches, "Memories I" and "Memories II" which were written for his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Art had just recently completed "Memories III". Everyone knew of Art's interest in the Green Bay Packers, which began in 1919. Then, at the age of 11, he saw the early games where the hat was passed around and later went 'over the fence' as a youngster. He saw them play at Hagemeister Park, Bellevue Park, City Stadium, and finally at Lambeau Field. Art went to all the championship games in the first glory years: 1929, 1930, 1931, as well as 1936, 1939, and 1944 in the Lambeau era, 1961, 1962, 1964, 1965, 1966, and Super Bowls I and II in the Lombardi era. Art established the Green Bay Packer Ticket Agency at Look Drug Stores from 1934-1964, where he sold a record total of 1163 season tickets annually. He was elected to the Green Bay Packer Board of Directors in 1950 where he served until 1986 and then became Director Emeritus until the time of his death.

Arthur is survived by two daughters: Susan (Glen) Hinkens and Muriel (Ronald) Merbach, both of Kaukauna; six grandchildren: Emilie (Dr. William) Boots, David (Julie) Hinkens, Catherine (Douglas) Senso; Anne (Robert) Krautkramer, Michael (Lisa) Merbach, and Daniel (Angela) Merbach; eleven great-grandchildren: Elizabeth, Jennifer and Benjamin Boots; Drew and Darren Hinkens; Abigail and Nathaniel Senso; Stephanie and Julia Krautkramer; and Louis and Alexis Merbach. He is further survived by one sister: Antoinette Bacon of Green Bay; one brother: James (Ilene) Mongin of Green Bay; one sister-in-law: Leone Mongin of Appleton. Other survivors include his wife's family: sisters-in-law Dorothy Mills of Roswell, Georgia and Katharine Look Beyer and her husband Marvin Beyer of Marshfield. Arthur was preceded in death by his loving wife of 60 years, Mabel; one brother: Norbert Mongin; a brother-in-law: Bernard Bacon; his wife's brothers: Walter (Hilda) Look, George Look, and Arthur (Lorraine) Look; his wife's sisters: Elsie Mae (Ralph Waldo) Emerson, Norma Look, Lucille (William) Smith.

The funeral liturgy for Art will be held at 5:00 PM on Tuesday, December 23, 2003 at ST.MARY CATHOLIC CHURCH, 119 W. 7th Street in Kaukauna with Fr. Robert Udulutsch, OFM, Cap. officiating. Interment will be in the parish cemetery. Friends may call directly at the church on Tuesday afternoon from 3:00 PM until the hour of the service. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in his name.
