Arlene L. Wendt

May 5, 1921 — February 4, 2021

Arlene Lena Wendt, age 99, passed away into the loving arms of her Savior on February 4, 2021.

Arlene was born in the Town of Freedom on May 5, 1921 to William and Ella Schroeder.   Arlene married Harold Wendt on April 25, 1942.  They had 48 years of marriage before Harold’s passing in 1990.  Harold and Arlene farmed in the town of Center until 1957 and then moved to Appleton.  She resided in Appleton until her death.

Faithful to God, lover of family, hard worker, perfectionist, fun, frugal, intelligent, and independent.  All of these words describe Arlene and so many more.  Arlene was a dedicated homemaker and mother.  When she was young, she always welcomed the neighbor children to her home and enjoyed hearing their laughter and silliness.  She was a wonderful baker and cook, putting a meal of meat, potatoes, vegetables and dessert on the table every evening.   The family continued to enjoy her wonderful Thanksgiving pies and Christmas cookies and candies for decades.  Before Harold’s death, Arlene and Harold enjoyed many road trips together and were able to visit 49 states.  In later years Arlene enjoyed playing cards and reading, and being with family and friends.  She was an avid fan of the Milwaukee Brewers, being able to discuss players and stats well into her 90s.  Arlene was blessed with a good sense of humor and just enjoyed talking and laughing with people.  Arlene took pride in her grandchildren when they were young and now that they are adults. When they were young, she was always ready to lend a helping hand if they needed a ride or a last minute babysitter.  The grandchildren enjoyed special overnight visits that included games, treats, and a restaurant visit.  In her last decade of life, she took great joy in being able to see her great-grandchildren.  She was still proudly showing off her youngest great granddaughter’s picture only days before her death.

Arlene was a faithful member of Bethany Lutheran Church since 1958.  She served in many volunteer capacities such as a member of Altar Guild, as a money counter, and as a member of Ladies’ Aid.  She also volunteered for many years at the Bargain Garden Thrift Store.

Arlene is survived by her daughter, Connie and four grandchildren Stacey (Ben) Oatman, Lori (Lee) Greenwood, Elizabeth (Jon) Lane, and Mark Juetten.  Eight great grandchildren also survive her as well as nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Harold, her son-in-law James, five sisters, and six brothers and their spouses.  She was also preceded in death by Harold’s parents and his two sisters and their spouses.

If it is true that angels walk among us, our family knows that one’s name is Tammy from AseraCare Hospice.  She took amazing care of my mother, and we thank her. The family would also like to thank the staff of Renaissance Assisted Living.  They truly exemplified kindness and compassion during this pandemic and my mother’s final journey home.

A private service is being held for the comfort of the family.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Bethany Ev. Lutheran Church in Appleton.
