Solberg, Arlene J.

Arlene Johanna Solberg, age 88, passed away on September 20, 2010. She was born June 22, 1922, the daughter of the late Amos and Ella (Krueger) Greb. Arlene graduated from Appleton High School and was a lifelong resident of Appleton. On February 20, 1943, she married her loving husband, Hilmar L. Solberg. They were married for 59 years until his passing in 2002. Arlene was a dedicated wife who cared for Hilmar for 16 years at home after his stroke and visited him every day for 5 years after he lived at Rennes Health Center. Arlene was a lifelong member of Emmanuel United Methodist Church where she participated in numerous church functions over the years. She volunteered at Appleton Medical Center and Highland School with special education students. Arlene was also the first lady of Kiwanis International in 1979, as Hilmar was president. She loved to play the piano, but was most devoted to her family and dedicated her life to spending time with children and grandchildren.

Arlene is lovingly survived by her children: Christine (William) Bernhagen of Mankato, Minnesota, Rae (Paul) Sanders of Wausau, Curtis (Sue) Solberg of Greenville; grandchildren: Nissa, Grant, Ross, Laura, Kelly; great-grandchildren: Madison, lily and Sam. Arlene is preceded in death by her son, Gary William Solberg.

A Memorial Service for Arlene will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, October 15, 2010 at Emmanuel United Methodist Church, 740 E. College Avenue, with the Rev. Mark Geisthardt officiating. Friends will be received at the church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.
