To Arlene's family: I had plans to attend the visitation or funeral today, but work had other plans for me. It got very busy this afternoon in the clinic. I've known Arlene for quite a few years and she really "grew on me". I began to think of her as "family," as she reminded me of an aunt that I have....rather direct and set in her ways...but you knew where she was coming from. In retrospect, I'm glad for her that she was able to live out her life the way she wanted to, although it caused a fair amount of stress for the family, trying to keep her safe. She is one of my most memorable (and endearing) patients, and I will miss seeing her at the clinic.
