Andy Pappas

April 25, 1986 — February 5, 2010

Andy Pappas, age 23, was taken from us suddenly on Friday, February 5, 2010. Andy was born in Carrollton, Texas on April 25, 1986, the son of Michael and Julie (Pfeiffer) Pappas. As a boy, he was active in the Boy Scouts of America, and in 2000 earned his Eagle Scout rank. Andy graduated from Appleton East High School in 2005. While studying at Appleton East, he participated in football and track. He was also involved with the FIRST Robotics program, winning several regional competitions and ranking in the National competition. Andy attended Michigan Technological University, University of Wisconsin – Fox Valley, and was currently approaching his graduation from Fox Valley Technical College where he had been studying business management with an emphasis on renewable energies. Andy was also currently working at Appleton Compressor as a mechanic and energy audit technician.

Everyone will remember Andy as a young man whose positive energy could not be capped. Everyone will remember his smile! He was there to help his family and friends at any time he was needed. Whenever asked to help, his immediate answer was, “Absolutely!” You could count on that. He loved the outdoors. Camping, hiking, backpacking, climbing and gardening – they were all favorite ways to get some time in the fresh air and sunshine. Andy was also incredibly conscious of our impact on the environment, and had a special interest in renewable energy. You would not find Andy drinking from a disposable bottle or using plastic knives and forks. If it wasn't good for being green, it wasn't good for Andy either! Andy was active at the Fox Cities YMCA in different capacities. He served as their Teen Coordinator as well as a camp counselor at Camp Nan A Bo Sho (NABS). There, his many camp friends affectionately knew him only as “Tator”.

Andy is survived by his loving parents: Mike and Julie Pappas of Appleton; a brother: Stephen Pappas who is a student at Bemidji State University; a sister: Angela Pappas who is a student at Appleton East; his maternal grandmother: Jeanne Pfeiffer-Ewens of Crandon; his paternal grandparents: James and Mary (McGovern) Pappas of Appleton.

Andy has many aunts and uncles who will miss him deeply: Robert Pfeiffer of Crandon; his Godmother: Mary (John) White of Milwaukee; Michael (Tina) Pfeiffer of Hartford; Jane Borden of Milwaukee; Dan (Jan) Pappas of South Carolina; James A. (Joan) Pappas of Neenah; Patricia (Keith) Milka of Hortonville; and his Godfather: Donald (Jeanne) Pappas of Menasha. He always enjoyed the company of his many cousins who are also saddened by his passing: Jake and Patrick Wincapaw; Abigail, Nicole, and Megan Pfeiffer; Julia, Nathan, and Samantha Borden; Jim (Kellie) Pappas, Jeff (Laura) Pappas, and Jerry Pappas; Mark (Angie) Pappas, Julie and Mary Pappas; Katie and Brad Milka; and Renae and Sarah Pappas. Andy is further survived by other relatives and by many dear friends.
