Age 87, died Sunday, July 21, 2002. Andrew was born December 19, 1914 to the late Anton and Marie (Peterson) Bong in Cudahy, Wisconsin. He married the former Karleen Owen on January 17, 1942, she survives him. Andrew served during WWII for the U.S. Coast Guard on the USS Duane (Coast Guard Cutter) until his honorable discharge. He attended the University of Wisconsin on a basketball scholarship, boxed in the Golden Gloves, played semi-pro football, and pitched for several community baseball leagues. Andy organized Scout and YMCA athletic leagues for more than 30 years. He served 20 years on the Cudahy Volunteer Fire Department. Andrew was a Cudahy School Board member for 18 years and also a past president. He belonged to the Kiwanis Club (K of the Year, 1986). He retired as a Supervisor after 47 years with the Ladish Company and enjoyed memberships with the VFW, American Legion and the Civilian Conservation Corps.

He is survived by six children, Thomas Bong, David (Ellie) Bong, Roger (Lynn) Bong, Jack (Diane) Bong, Jeananne (Terry) Stearns and Larry (Karen) Bong; nine grandchildren, Caroline Jensen, Sarah Bong, Laura Gulick, Karly Stearns, Christopher Bong, Nathan Stearns, Andrew Bong, Sabrina Bong and Alex Bong; a sister, Shirley Garcia and a brother Russell Bong.

He was preceded in death by a brother, George Bong.

A memorial service was held on Thursday, July 25, 2002 in the Main Chapel at the Wisconsin Veterans Home, King WI. Interment followed full Military Burial Rites.
