Alice Jewett Sampson

Alice Jewett Sampson, age, 91, of Appleton, passed away on Sunday, July 5, 2015 at the Appleton Medical Center. Allie was born in Fall River, Massachusetts, on October 31, 1923, the daughter of Jewett and Dorothy (Barnes) Newton. She grew up in Brookline, Massachusetts, and Hallowell, Maine, graduating from Concord Academy, Concord, Massachusetts, in 1942 and Bradford Junior College, Bradford, Massachusetts, in 1944. She was employed by the Beaver Country Day School, Brookline, Massachusetts; the Remedial Education Center and OSS Archives in Washington, D.C.
In 1956 she married Richard D. Sampson in Lewiston, Maine, and moved to Appleton. Allie enjoyed classical music, reading, bicycling and sewing. Allie was active in the Girl Scouts in the 1970's leading a troop at Edison School and chairing an International Girl Scout event in 1973. In 2006, she and Richard celebrated their 50 wedding anniversary. She was a member of St. Thomas Church.

She is survived by her daughter: Tammera Sampson; grandchildren: Dezirae, Jozlynn and Jacobie Baeten; great granddaughter Malea Arceneaux; and her sister Dorothy Shaw. She was preceded in death by her husband Richard in 2008, her daughter Jayne Sampson, her sisters Sylvia Cotton and Anne Truesdale, and grandson Amos Sampson.

A memorial service for Alice will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, July 18, 2015, at ST. THOMAS CHURCH, 226 Washington St. Menasha, with Father Ralph Osborne and Father Bill Johnston officiating. A time of visitation will be held at the church from 9:30 am until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established for Allie at St. Thomas Episcopal Church.
