Wilmer “Bill” W. Schmidt, age 98, passed away peacefully on April 13, 2024. Bill was born on May 23, 1925, to the late Arno and Leona (Heinz) Schmidt in the Town of Rockland, WI. He grew up on a farm in Brillion and worked the farm throughout his early years. On May 31, 1947, Bill married Beverly Ramsay at Memorial Presbyterian Church in Appleton and the two raised their family in Neenah. When his parents bought a farm in Appleton, Bill & Beverly took over, while beginning their family. After working in construction for his father-in-law, Bill began his plumbing business where he worked until retiring at age 84.
Bill loved to hunt and fish and often brought extended family members fishing with them (where they could take well-earned naps!). He had his own fishing boat and could often be found on Lake Michigan. He surrounded himself with his family and many good friends who were like family.
Following the death of Beverly in 2012, Bill filled his time volunteering at Cherry Meadows and the Salvation Army. He became quite the foodie and enjoyed making soups and applesauce. He spent time watching the birds (and napping) on his patio. He also enjoyed the companionship of special friend Bonnie Jean Davis following Beverly’s passing.
Survivors include: two sons: Greg (Diane) Schmidt and Curt (Sherry) Schmidt; a daughter: Jody (Jeff Stevens) Scott; and his beloved grandchildren: Lesley Lynn, Chloe Rae, Kenzie Jo, Hali Mae, Collin William (Barcardi) and Morgan Rae; great grandchildren: Lyla and Nova. He is further survived by his sister Irma Stammer as well many nieces, nephews and other family and friends. Bill was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Beverly and his sister Mildred (Don) Stanelle and brother-in-law Calvin Stammer.
A memorial service for Bill will take place on Tuesday April 30, 2024, at First United Methodist Church, 108 W Doty Ave, Neenah. Visitation will begin at 9:00am with the service at 11:00am. Bill and Beverly will be laid to rest at Riverside Cemetery, Appleton.
Bill’s family wishes to thank the staff at Cherry Meadows for their compassionate and loving care.
