William Sheridan Huss, Jr., age 86, of Appleton, passed away Wednesday morning, May 23, 2007, following a very brief stay at Cherry Meadows. He was born to the late William S. and Christine (Zahl) Huss, Sr. on April 29, 1921, in Oak Park IL. He married Marion Eickemeyer in1943. In their 54 years together they had four children; the youngest, David Scott, passed away at the age of 17 in 1977, Marion died in 1998. On May 23, 1999, Sherry married Georgie Lou Madison, of Appleton. Sherry’s family now includes his children, Vanessa (was Christine) (Barney) Nashold, Mendota IL; Richard W. (Esther Akiba), Berkeley, CA; Karen (Mark) Tucker, San Jose, CA; grandchildren include, Barbara Helena Nashold, Stephen C. Nashold, Alissa Nashold, all of Mendota; and Simon H. (Gloria) Nashold, Anchorage, Alaska; great grandchildren, Micah S. Nashold and Scott L. Nashold. Sherry’s marriage to Georgie brought into his family, Dr. Mark (Paula) Madison, Holden, MA; grandchildren, Lindsey R. and Elliot C. T.; Dr. Laird D. (Anne) Madison, New Plymouth, New Zealand and step grandchildren, Dana and Charlotte. Sherry also has a dear cousin, Forrest (Auristela) Pochert, Westmont, IL. After college, sherry served in the U. S. Army, as a Sergeant, from 1942 – 1946, which included 19 months in the South Pacific. In 1943 Sherry received a B. A. at Carleton College, Northfield, MN and after Army years an MBA at the University of Michigan, School of Business (1951). Sherry’s working years included a position at a personnel laboratory as psychological consultant, in Chicago, 1946 – 1948; Marathon Corp. (American Can) in new product development, 1951 – 1964; Alwin Manufacturing Company, Green Bay, as purchasing manager 1964 –1987, then retirement. After family, Sherry’s interests were Church, Boy Scouts, Mother Nature and Masonry.He was a very faithful member of Memorial Presbyterian Church, Appleton, since 1952, serving in the choir most of those years. An ordained Elder and Deacon, he served several terms on both boards. Sherry loved to read the Bible regularly and to study it as opportunity for education came his way. Sherry’s interest in Boy Scouts of America dominated much of his life. He became a scout in 1933. He earned his Eagle Badge, was a member of the Order of the Arrow and received the Silver Beaver Award. He served as Scout Master, District Chairman, Wood Badge Staff and Council Advisory Board. Mother Nature was dear to Sherry’s heart. He was always learning about wild flowers, trees, birds, fish, rocks and he was profoundly concerned about the environment. He reveled in back-packing and canoeing in the wildernesses of Montana and Idaho, not to mention the Wisconsin North- Woods. For decades, he took great pleasure in maintaining the family lake-front place Up North laboring over every detail of the upkeep of the house and land. Masonry was a tremendously important factor in Sherry’s life. He served as Master of Waverly Lodge #51, Appleton (1965). He was Commander-in-chief, Scottish Rite, Valley of Green Bay (1988) and he was very much honored to be made a 33 rd Degree Scottish Rite Mason (1989). He was a member of Beja Shrine Temple and of several other Masonic bodies.
Memorial services for William will be held at 11:00 am, Thursday, May 31, 2007, at MEMORIAL PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH, 803 East College Avenue, with the Reverend Charles Valenti-Hein officiating. There will be a Masonic Service at the church on Wednesday, May 30, 2007, at 7:00 pm. It is a public service, to honor departed Masons. All are welcome. There will be a visitation at the church on Thursday from 10:00 am, until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to the David Huss Memorial Scholarship Fund, at Memorial Presbyterian Church or to a charity of your choice.

Sherry’s family feels special gratitude for the skills and “bed side” manner of Dr. John D. Swanson and for the wonderful, cheerful staff surrounding him.
