Age 51, passed away on Monday, March 31, 2008 with his family by his side after an 11 month courageous battle with a malignant brain tumor. Bill was born in Appleton, WI on March 10, 1957 the son of the late Edward and Lollie (Budsberg) Freude. He graduated from Appleton High School West in 1975. In 1979 Bill graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point with a Bachelor of Science degree in Geography, History and Broadfield Social Studies. He completed his Masters Degree in Curriculum and Supervision from the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh. On July 17, 1982 he married his high school sweetheart, Nancy Hill. Bill began his teaching career in Medford, WI where he was also the head wrestling coach. He later taught in New Holstein, WI and coached both wrestling and volleyball. In 1988 Bill joined the faculty at Green Bay West High School where he taught Advanced Placement U.S. History, U.S. History and Geography. Bill enjoyed teaching, traveling, biking, boating, campfires, and spending time at “The Cottage” on Shawano Lake. Bill was a devoted husband and father. He took great pride in attending his children's athletic events. Bill was not only a positive role model for his own children, but also to the many students whose lives he touched throughout his teaching career. Bill loved animals, especially his little dog Marissa.
Bill is survived by his loving wife of 25 years, Nancy; son, Michael who is attending UW-Milwaukee and daughter, Jennifer, at home; brother, Thomas (Ann) Freude of Tomahawk; sister, Carol (Mark) Eggert of Appleton; and mother-in-law, Mary Hill of Appleton. He is further survived by sisters-in-law, Suzanne (Joe) Vosters, Julie (Phil) Janssen, Ann Michelle (Joe) Hameister. Also surviving are 11 nieces and nephews, Ryan (Pepe), Paul, Lynn (Ryan), Matt (fiancé Brittany), Steve, Ben, Sara, Dan, Nick, Megan, and Ella. He was preceded in death by his parents and his father-in-law, James Hill.
The funeral liturgy will be at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 12, 2008 at ST. THOMAS MORE CATHOLIC CHURCH, 1810 N. McDonald St., Appleton, with Fr. Gerald Falk officiating. Friends will be received at the funeral home on Friday, April 11, from 4:00 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. and at the church on Saturday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service. Interment will be in Appleton Highland Memorial Park.
