Age 85, died on Sunday, March 23, 2003 at Appleton Medical Center. He was born on February 19, 1918 in Alpha, MI the son of the late Ray (Katherine Fredrickson) Burge. He graduated from Michigan Technological Institute in Houghton, Michigan in 1940 with a Bachelor of Science degree in electrical engineering. He became employed by Wisconsin-Michigan Power Company after graduation, and enlisted in the United States Army where he served his country in England and Panama during World War II. During his time in Panama, he met B. Clotile Branom and they were married there. After his time in service, he and his wife came to Appleton and built a house on Connell Street in Appleton where they lived 50 years. Bill was an active member of First Congregational United Church of Christ in Appleton, and was a charter member of the Golden K of the Kiwanis Club in Appleton, and was a dedicated member of the YMCA.
He is survived by four daughters and four sons-in-law Beverly and Richard Lathrop of Green Bay, Helen and Mark Rudolf of Appleton, Ann and James Pesout of Mountain Ranch, California, and Janet and James Paces of Denver, Colorado; 10 grandchildren Kenneth Lathrop of Kimberly, Michael and Sandra Lathrop of Green Bay, Kristin and Philip Turnbull of Green Bay, Jennifer Rudolf and her fiancé Brett Polglaze of Madison, Daniel Rudolf and Nicholas Rudolf both of Appleton, Trevor Pesout, and Sarah Pesout both of Mountain Ranch, California, and Will Paces and Margo Paces both of Denver, Colorado; three great grandchildren Alicia, Evan, and Emmey Lathrop all of Green Bay. Bill is also survived by his sister Fern McGeath of Petoskey, Michigan; three brothers Alvin, Wayne, and Ray Burge all of Crystal Falls, Michigan; and many nieces and nephews. Bill was preceded in death by his wife B. Clotile, and his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
A memorial service for Bill will be conducted on Saturday, April 12, 2003 at 11:00 AM at First Congregational United Church of Christ 724 East South River Street in Appleton. The family will greet relatives and friends at the church on Saturday from 10:00 AM until the time of the services. A memorial fund is being established.
