William ''Jim'' Kluge

Age 76, passed away Monday, May 6, 2002 at the Cherry Meadows Hospice in Appleton. Jim was born on November 17, 1925 in Appleton, son of the late Herbert and Johanna (Verbrick) Kluge. He was a 1943 graduate of the Appleton High School and also graduated from Lawrence University. During World War II, he faithfully served his country as a sergeant in the 36th Division of the United States Army. He was wounded in battle and received the Purple Heart before his discharge on 1945. On August 20, 1949 he married the former Patricia Ouellette in Kimberly; she survives. For over thirty years, Jim worked as a Packaging Manager at Kimberly Clark, with ten of those years being spent in Roswell, Georgia. He retired in 1986. Jim was a 52-year member of the William Verhagen Post #60 of the American Legion and was a former member of the military funeral detail. He was also a 43-year member of the Knights of Columbus Council #4489 where he held each chair, served as Grand Knight on two occasions, and was also a District Deputy for four years. He also held membership with the 4th Degree Knights of Columbus Allouez Assembly #1199 where he was the Immediate Past Faithful Comptroller. Jim was also an active and faithful member at Holy Name of Jesus Parish, where he participated as a lector, member of the New Life Choir, and assisted with the Religious Education program. The Kimberly School Board was a benefactor of his service for some eighteen years as was the Kimberly Public Library for three years.

Jim is survived by his wife of fifty-two years: Pat Kluge of Kimberly; four sons: Kurt Kluge of Forestville, Wisconsin and his fiancée Vickie Strom; Paul (Carol) Kluge of Kimberly; John (Carrie) Kluge of Appleton; Matthew (Chris) Kluge of Loganville, Georgia; two daughters: Kathy (Carl) Janssen of Kaukauna and Janet Mullinax of Gainesville, Georgia and her friend Ben; a granddaughter: Randi Lynn Kluge; twelve grandsons: Corey (Rasha) Kluge, Jesse and Shane Kluge; Derick Kluge; Andy, Ken, and Brian Janssen; Kyle, Connor, and Hunter Kluge; Michael and Mitchell Kluge; a step-grandson: Stephen Fialko; two great-grandchildren Rebecca and Casey Janssen; two sisters-in-law: Betty (Charles) Treder of Brookfield and Delores (Jim) Hopfensperger of Kaukauna; a brother-in-law: Harold Bobber of Appleton. He is further survived by numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister Ann (Don) Nagel, and sisters-in-law Elaine (Joe) McCann and Mary Bobber.

The funeral mass for Jim will be held at 12:00 Noon on Thursday, May 9, 2002 at HOLY NAME OF JESUS PARISH, 600 E. Kimberly Avenue in Kimberly with Rev. Dennis Bergsbaken officiating. Interment will follow at the parish cemetery with military funeral honors being provided by the members of William Verhagen Post #60 of the American Legion. Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday from 4 Р8 PM and again at the church on Thursday from 11 AM until the hour of the mass. There will be a parish prayer and scripture service at 7:30 PM Wednesday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family has established a memorial fund in Jim’s name.

The family would like to thank the staff and volunteers of ThedaCare at Home Hospice for their wonderful care and many visits. Thank you also to the entire staff at Cherry Meadows Hospice. During the time Jim was with you, he was treated as though he was your very own. He could have been in no better hands. Thank you so much; we will never forget your kindness.
