William G. “Bill” Melzer
Appleton
Age 73, passed away Monday, October 13, 2008, at his home. Bill was born October 27, 1934, in Sheboygan, the son of Arnold E. and Lorene D. (Brackin) Melzer. He graduated from Sheboygan Central High School, and attended the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where he earned his Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration. Bill continued his graduate work in Madison at the UW School of Banking. He served in the United States Navy for two years following the
Korean Conflict and was a Blue and Gold Officer with the US Naval Academy.
Bill was united in marriage to Mary E. “Betsy” Sutton on October 14, 1961, in Milwaukee. They were blessed with two sons, Kurt and Eric. Bill began his career in banking with the First National Bank of Appleton, now known as Chase Bank, and retired after 34 years. He was active with the Robert Morris banking organization.
Bill is survived by his two sons, Kurt (Stacey) Melzer, El Paso, Texas, and Eric R. Melzer, Minneapolis, Minn; his four grandchildren, Alissa Melzer, Nathan Melzer, Kelcey Scott, and Collin Dabbs; a great grandson, Dominick Aguirre; his brother, Robert Melzer, Sheboygan; and a sister and brother-in-law, Jane (Robert) Toney and David Sutton. He was preceded in death by his parents and his beloved wife, Betsy.
Memorial services for Bill will be at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, October 21, 2008, at the FIRST CONGREGATIONAL UNITED CHURCH OF CHRIST, 724 E. South River St., Appleton, with Rev. Jane Anderson officiating. The family will greet friends on Tuesday beginning at 9:30 a.m. at the church until the time of services. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Bill's name may be sent to the Betsy Melzer Memorial Fund, c/o the Appleton Education Foundation, 122 E. College Ave., Suite 1B, Appleton, WI, 54911.
The family would like to extend their sincere thanks to the care givers at Colony Oaks, the Heritage, Appleton Medical Center, and ThedaCare At Home Hospice.
