Dougherty, William G
William G. Dougherty, age 79, died Monday evening following a battle with cancer. He was born January 5, 1926, to the late Robert and Helen (Meyers) Dougherty, in Appleton, where he was a resident most of his life. Bill served with the U. S. Navy, as a chef, during WW II. Following his discharge he met Janice Stead, they shared 54 years together. Bill had been employed as a butcher and as chef at various restaurants in the area. In 1967 he opened Chef Bill’s Supper Club, now Mark’s Eastside, which he operated for 20 years. Bill loved to participate in games of chance, entertaining and cooking for friends, he also enjoyed small engine repair, hunting and boating. He was a member of St. Pius X Catholic Church and was a member and helped to establish his local chapter of the Wisconsin Restaurant Association. Bill is survived by four children, Dave “Duffy” Dougherty and his fiancée, Carol Tuoto, Seminole, FL; Judy and Rick Simon, Appleton; Linda and Tom Kuchenbecker, Stevens Point; Mark and Lori Dougherty, Appleton; seven grandchildren, Dawn (Bill) Ebert, Scott Simon, Curt (Jenny) Simon, Nicole (Richard) Klemme, Sarah Kuchenbecker, Will and Riley Dougherty; three great grandchildren, Connor Simon, Caitlin Simon and Tommy Klemme; a brother, Russell Dougherty, Wisconsin Rapids and Florida; a sister, Betty Smith; Neenah; and a sister-in-law, Marilyn (Don) Slusarski, Stevens Point; nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Janice L. (Stead) Dougherty, on March 16, 2001, a brother, Robert Dougherty and a brother-in-law, Richard Smith. The funeral liturgy for William will be held at 12:00 pm, Thursday, April 7, 2005, at ST PIUS X CATHOLIC CHURCH, 500 West Marquette Street, with Father Donald Zuleger officiating. Entombment will be in Greenlawn Cemetery, Neenah. Friends may call at the church on Thursday, from 9:30 am, until the time of the mass. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established for the American Cancer Society.
The family would like to thank the staff of Cherry Meadows Hospice for the love and care they showed to Bill and his family.
