William Delmar Peterson Jr.

William passed away quietly in his sleep on December 28, 2018 at the age of 90. William, known to his friends as Bill, was born in Neenah, WI March 19, 1928. Bill grew up in Appleton, WI with his parents, Mryna (Ruth) and William Delmar Peterson and two younger brothers, Tom Peterson and Richard Peterson.

Bill graduated from Appleton High School and at graduation joined the US Army where he was part of the occupation of Japan after WWII, a time about which he told great stories of going on hikes in which both ways were uphill. After discharge he attended Lawrence College, graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics. It was while in college that he met the love of his life Marianne Fondow and they married while he was still in College. After graduation Bill worked for numerous paper companies: Marathon Paper, American Can, Bergstrom Paper, and Glatfelter Paper, mainly in the role of Market Analyst. His employment took him, aside from Neenah, WI, to Houston Texas, Yorktown Heights, NY and York, PA where he retired from Glatfelter and moved back to Appleton settling in the Town of Buchanan. It was while in York PA that his wife Marianne passed away after a long illness.

Bill was a long-time member of Fox Valley Golf and Country Club where he thoroughly enjoyed his time there golfing with his friends. Bill passed his love of golf to his Grandson Chris and the two of them loved playing together. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing and playing cards especially with his friends at Whimpy’s. Bill loved to travel and if could include golf that was even better.

Bill is survived by his son James Peterson (Kate), daughter Deborah Countney (Paul) and his grandson Christopher Countney (Kayla).

Bill was proceeded in death by his parents, his wife Marianne and his two brothers Tom and Dick.

The Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday January 3, 2019 at Wichmann Funeral Home (537 N. Superior St., Appleton). Visitation will be held from 10:00 AM until the time of service.

The family would like to thank the nurses at Brewster Village for their kindness and care along with the cook who took special care to take note of Bill’s favorites foods.
