Wilburta Hentges, age 88 of Appleton, Wisconsin and Alta Vista, Iowa went to her heavenly home on May 9, 2015 Wilburta was born in Aplington, Iowa on May 26, 1926. She was the daughter of George W. and Lydia (Hussman) DeBoer. She married L.D. Roegner of Ackley, Iowa on June 23, 1948. They were married for thirty-two years until L.D. passed away in 1980. Wilburta and L.D. had three children: Barbara, Donald, and Laurie. Wilburta received her teaching degree and began her career in a one-room schoolhouse. For the last nine years of her career she was employed by the Waterloo (Iowa) School District. At age 63, she married Paul Hentges of Alta Vista, Iowa. They were married for eighteen years until Paul's death on June 27, 2006. Wilburta continued living in Alta Vista until she moved to Appleton, Wisconsin. Wilburta enjoyed entertaining, golfing, playing the piano, cooking, canning, boating, and traveling with family. Her passion for the pro-life movement will live on through the Tri County Citizens for Life organization.
Wilburta is survived by her daughter: Barbara Parsons of Appleton; Don (Lynn) Roegner of Appleton; and Laurie (Gregg) Schierl of Appleton; six grandchildren: Anne and Emily Parsons; Hannah and Justin Schierl; Beth (Brian) Robinson; and Daniel (Katia) Burdick; three great-grandchildren: Claire Robinson and Hudson and Reece Burdick; two brothers: Mark (Edie) DeBoer and Gary (Marie) DeBoer; a Godchild and niece: Lisa (Brian) Barnes and their children Dr. Emily, Olivia, and Lee; and a nephew: Randy (Joyce) Roegner and their sons and grandchildren.
The funeral mass for Wilburta will be held at 10:30 AM on Saturday, May 16, 2015 at St. Bernard Catholic Church, 114 E. Washington Street in Alta Vista, Iowa. Fr. Steve Garner will officiate, and burial will follow in Mount Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Saturday morning from 9:30 AM until the hour of the services.
The family would like to send a sincere thank you to Dr. Michael Johnson, Dr. Gizell Larson, and the entire staff at Brewster Village for the care compassion, and comfort they provided to Wilburta.
