Bill was taken from earthly life to heavenly glory on December 8, 2011, at the age of 87.
Wilbert H. Luehring was born by God's grace to parents Henry and Marie (Yackel) Luehring on June 2, 1924 in Sanborn, Minnesota and was baptized into the family of faith on June 29 at Zion Lutheran Church in Sanborn. He was blessed to receive a Christian education in Lutheran schools in Sanborn, Nicollet, and New Ulm, Minnesota. Motivated by Jesus' love, Wilbert's adult life was one of service to God, family, and country.
Wilbert suspended his college education and joined the U.S. Navy in December of 1943. He served as Sonar Operator on the destroyer U.S.S. Brush, patrolling in the Philippines, the South China Sea, and Tokyo Bay until honorably discharged in May of 1946.
He returned to Dr. Martin Luther College in New Ulm, Minnesota, graduating in June of 1948, and married Irene Arnold on December 30, 1950. He served as a Lutheran school teacher, organist, choir director and principal St. Bartholomew Lutheran School in Kawkawlin, Michigan; Trinity Lutheran School in Kaukauna, Wisconsin ; and as a teacher at Mt. Calvary Lutheran School in Kimberly, Wisconsin. In retirement, Wilbert was employed as a painter and as a custodian at Mount Olive Lutheran School in Appleton. He also served as a volunteer tutor at Trinity Lutheran School.
Preceding Wilbert in death were his parents and six brothers-and-sisters in-law: Holly Bartelt, Ray Freerksen, Elmer and Wilma Arnold, and Florence and Henry Pfundt.
Survivors include his wife Irene Luehring of Kaukauna; Wilbert and Irene were blessed with 60 years of married life. God declares: “Sons…a heritage of the Lord, children a reward.” To that end, God provided them with a family that includes five children: Charles (Jackie) Luehring, Thomas (Karla) Luehring, Frederick (Carol) Luehring , Judith (Jim) Hahn, Susan (Scott) Reineck; eighteen grandchildren: Shaun (Jessica), Jamie (Rachel), Phillip and Timothy Luehring; Andrew (Nicole), Mitchell and Brittany Luehring; Kathy (Jason) Verpoorten, Mark, Rachel, Karen, Ruth and David Luehring; Becky (Zach) Seeger, Joel (Margo), Jason, Lindsey and Eric Hahn; there are also two sisters: Margaret Freerksen and Ruth Redwing; as well as ten great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Although we grieve the earthly death of our husband, brother, father, grandfather, great-grandfather., we celebrate his arrival in heaven. He remains certain… not in himself; but in the perfect life, innocent death, victorious resurrection, and affirming ascension of Jesus Christ, his Lord and Savior. To God be the glory!
