Ward C. Patton Jr., age 83, of Appleton, passed away at Brewster Village on Sunday, January 5, 2014. Ward was born on August 10, 1930 in Tampa, Florida to the late Ward Patton and Willa Grace Wicker. He served his country in the Air Force during the Korean War, and in 1952 he married Bettie Munson. He later attended McCormick Theological Seminary in Illinois, and went on to be a Presbyterian minister in Sheldon, IL, Reeds Spring, MO, Oxford, WI, West Salem, WI and Wyoming, IA. Ward and Bettie were members at First Congregational U.C.C. for many years until recently becoming members at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Appleton. Ward had many interests. He was a philatelist, Rotarian, member of the Lion's Club, computer enthusiast, member of the ROF, avid motorcyclist and BMWMOA member, hobbyist winemaker and was active in the Democratic Party. He also spent time filling the pulpit when and wherever needed.
Ward is survived by his daughter: Joyce (Phil) Patton-Kavanagh; sons: Mike (Gwen) Patton and Ward (Susan) Patton III; and grandchildren: Rose, Calvin and Nathan; sister: Julie Greene.
His wife, Bettie Munson Patton, and his sister, Martha Woodhouse, preceded him in death.
A memorial service for Ward will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, January 9, 2014 at PRINCE OF PEACE LUTHERAN CHURCH, (2330 East Calumet St.) with Pastor Gary Nokleberg and Pastor Roger McQuistion officiating. Visitation will be held from 10:00 AM until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in his name, and a donation will be made in his name to the Alzheimer's Association.
