Age 91, passed away on Sunday, March 25, 2001, at his home, following a short illness. He was born on May 21, 1909, in Freedom, the son of the late Oswald and Ida (Koch) Radloff. On February 6, 1934, he married the former Evelyn Garvey. Together they recently celebrated 67 years of marriage. Walter also recently celebrated his 30th year of retirement from his dairy farm in Freedom. Before owning his own farm, Walter also owned and operated Elm Grove Cheese Factory in Freedom. He was a member of the Freedom Rod and Gun Club and an original member of the Freedom Volunteer Fire Department.
Survivors beside his wife include two daughters, Donna (Earl “Mike”) Smith of Eau Claire; Carol (James) Penterman of Kaukauna; eleven grandchildren, Kathryn (Brad) Olson, Dennis (Lisa) Smith, Janeen (John) Whelihan, Sandra (Michael) Drace, Robert (Jeni) Smith, Michelle (Ben) Jacobson, Greg Smith, Gary Smith, Kim (Richard) McFaul, Sally Penterman, Amy (Rod) Huse; eight great grandchildren, Kurt Olson, Parker Drace, Makenzie Drace, Jarett Smith, Delaney Smith, Isabella Jacobson, Samantha and Breanna McFaul. Walter is further survived by three sisters-in-law, Marion Radloff of Appleton; Marie Coffey of Appleton; Linda Garvey of DePere; two brothers-in-law, Clifford (Valeria) Huss of Lakewood and Emil (Anna Mae) Huss of Freedom. Walter was preceded in death by his parents, twin granddaughters, Kristy and Karen Smith, a sister, Leona (Alvin) Greve; and his five brothers, Roland (Marion), Ralph, Harley, Ervin (Betsy), Lawrence (Jetta) Radloff.
Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 28, 2001, at MT. OLIVE EVANGELICAL LUTHERAN CHURCH, 930 E. Florida Avenue, Appleton, the Rev. Stephen Pope officiating. Interment will be in Highland Memorial Park. Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday, from 4-8 p.m. and again on Wednesday from 12:00 p.m. until the time of services. A memorial fund is being established. The family wishes to thank the staff at Hospice, Theda Care at Home, for their loving care.
