JOHNSON, VRENA E.

Vrena E. Johnson, age 89, of Wisconsin Dells, died peacefully on Sunday, December 3, 2006, at Brewster Village, Appleton, Wisconsin, with her daughter by her side. Vrena was born on October 5, 1917, in Newport, the daughter of the late Bennie and Emma (Mielke) Anderson. On January 17, 1942, she married Louis Johnson in Wisconsin Dells; Louis and Vrena traveled to the east coast awaiting assignment to a ship for his tour of duty in WWII. Vrena’s love of travel took them throughout the United States over their 55 years of marriage. He preceded her in death in February of 1997. Vrena was an amazing woman of many talents. Not only was she a loving wife and mother, but also worked at the General Telephone Company, cooked at the Wisconsin Dells High School, was employed with her husband at the Dells Associated Boat Company accounting office, and made fudge at a local fudge shop. Her talents as a seamstress and knitter are remembered and appreciated by all of her family and her accomplishments as an artist and craftswoman are acclaimed. She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, Trinity Lutheran Ladies Aid, and the Columbia County Homemakers. Vrena is survived by her daughter, Sherri (Kenneth) McNamara Boman, Appleton; her daughter-in-law, Jill Johnson, Wisconsin Dells; her grandchildren, Dr. Bradley (Rebecca) Johnson, Richland, Washington; Barron (Sheri) Johnson, West Allis; Brian Johnson, Reedsburg; Brenda (Michael) Muehlenberg, Watertown; Meggin (Steven) McNamara Horn, Fond du lac; Jon (T. Frick) McNamara, Seattle, Washington; and Ryan McNamara, Green Bay; and her great grandchildren, Bethany, Joel, Griffin, Jared, Gunther, Micah and Gannon Johnson, and Molly Muehlenberg. Vrena was preceded in death by son, Eugene Johnson and her brother, Clarence Anderson. Funeral services will be at Noon on Saturday, December 16, 2006, at TRINITY LUTHERAN CHURCH, Wisconsin Dells, with Rev. Dennis Schueler officiating. Friends may call directly at the church on Saturday the 16th from 11:00 a.m. until the time of services. Burial will be in Spring Grove Cemetery, Wisconsin Dells. Vrena’s family would like to invite all attendees to a lunch at the church following the services.
