“Ginnie”
Age 78 of Appleton passed away on Monday, February 7, 2005, at Rennes Health Center where she was recovering from emergency surgery. She was born on October 4, 1926, in Milwaukee the daughter of the late George and Clara (Polzin) Leu. On May 29, 1948, she married Orson V. Hoium in Milwaukee and he preceded her in death on July 20, 1995. On November 23, 2001, she married Marvin Knorr. Prior to her marriage she served the World War II domestic efforts as a radio technician selected to be trained at the University of Wisconsin in Milwaukee and later as one of two technicians from the state of Wisconsin educated further in New York. Ginnie is remembered as a life-long volunteer, giving her generous help to Girl Scouts, school organizations, and her church. Her generosity extended to helping family and friends not only in times of need. She will be forever remembered as a wonderful cook, especially for her Christmas cookies.
She is survived by her husband Marvin Knorr, of Appleton; her daughter Jean (Paul) Sandrock of Middleton, WI; her son Dale (Ellen Jache) Hoium of Marietta, Ohio; her grandchildren: Cory (Kristina) Sandrock and Brent Sandrock all of Chicago; and Lara Hoium of Savannah, Georgia, Dana Hoium of Cincinnati, and Peter and Clara Hoium of Marietta, Ohio. Ginnie was preceded in death by her first husband and a sister, Dorothy Leu.
A funeral service for Ginnie will be conducted on Saturday, February 12, 2005, at 2:00 PM at First English Lutheran Church at the corner of North and Drew Streets with the Rev. Paul Svingen officiating. Friends may call at Wichmann Funeral Home on Friday from 5-8 PM and at church on Saturday from 1:00 PM until the time of the service. A memorial fund is being established for First English Lutheran Church or the Shrine Auxiliary.
