Violet (Pickett) Himebaugh
May 2, 1908 – January 23, 2004
Long-time Appleton resident and retired educator Violet Himebaugh passed away quietly in her home after a full and satisfying life. She was born in Erath County, Texas, on May 2, 1908, daughter of the late William A. and Ora Violet Pickett, pioneer ranchers in early Texas. She was also preceded in death by sisters Florence and Mary and brothers-in-law Arthur Behling, Von H. Brobeck and George R. Killam, Jr. She is survived by her beloved husband, Donald, whom she wed on December 16, 1945.
Mrs. Himebaugh received her Master’s Degree from Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas. She taught Spanish at Appleton High School for nearly two decades and served as Foreign Language Department Head until her retirement in 1972.Many former students will remember her as a dedicated professional who promoted excellence and who motivated them to achieve. A good number of her students went on to become Spanish teachers because of her fine example. Special friends for three decades: Linda Weber and Dennis Meredith.
She was a member of the Appleton Woman’s Club, AARP, First Congregational Church of Appleton and played in various charity clubs.
Mrs. Himebaugh wished to express special gratitude to: VNA nurses Shirley, Sonja, Linda, Kathy, Pat and Darlene; Affinity Hospice nurses Ellen and Mary, faithful housekeeper Mary Head; long-time hairdresser and friend, Geri Kasper; wonderful friends Carol and Dick Sedo.
Wichmann Funeral Home is in charge of private arrangements. There will be no public service or visitation. A memorial fund has been established for the Thompson Community Center of Appleton.
