Age 92, passed away on Saturday, May 17, at Alterra Wynwood of Appleton after an extended illness. Viola was born on July 8, 1910, in the Town of Grand Chute, to the late Fredric and Minnie (Schroeder) Ruscher. She graduated from McCarthy Grammar School. Viola married Wilbert Hoh on February 22, 1933, at Mount Olive Ev. Lutheran Church, Appleton; he preceded her in death on May 18, 1995, after 62 years of marriage. She was a 4-H leader for 35 years and a member of the Willow Hill Homemakers. Viola was active in the Ladies Aid at Mt. Olive, and later at St. Paul Ev. Lutheran Church. She farmed with her husband in the Town of Grand Chute until moving to Appleton in 1962. Viola was employed at Elm Tree Bakery for 17 years, retiring in 1972. Together, she and Wilbert enjoyed time together traveling, gardening and playing dartball at church. Viola is survived by her four children, John and Caroline Hoh, Black Creek; Rueben and Judy Hoh, Appleton; Esther Murphy, Appleton; and Annette and Dennis Freiberg, Green Bay. She is further survived by nine grandchildren and her nine great-grandchildren: John and Maija Hoh, and son Matthew; Lillian and Andrew Nitz, and their children Laura, Christina and Daniel; Sharon and Tony Alfaro, and their daughters, Brittney and April; Janet and Thomas Shaw, and son Cameron; David Hoh; Susan and Mike Evers; William and Nikki Hoh, and daughters Alexandra and Emily; Jeff and Johnny Murphy. She is further survived by her sisters-in-law, Anita and Alice Ruscher; a godson, Earl Ruscher; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her sisters, Martha and Clara her brothers, Herman, Henry, Walter and Orville; and her grandson, Jason Murphy. The family wishes to express their thanks to Dr. Buffo and staff; the hospice staff, especially Deb and Marie; and the entire staff at Alterra Wynwood for their kindness and care. A memorial has been established in Viola’s name to benefit St. Paul Ev. Lutheran Church. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, May 21, 2003, at ST. PAUL EV. LUTHERAN CHURCH, 302 North Morrison Street, Appleton, with Rev. Ralph C. Waack officiating. Entombment will be in Highland Memorial Park, Appleton. Friends may call at the Wichmann Funeral Home on Tuesday from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and again directly at the church on Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. to the time of services.
