VICTOR I. MINAHAN, JR.

Age 81, died Friday, February 28, 2003, at his home. Vic was born on April 28, 1921, in DePere, Wisconsin, to the late Vic I. and Bertha (Bush) Minahan, Sr. He attended Northwestern Military Academy and graduated from Stanford University in 1946 with a BA degree. Vic proudly served his country from 1942-1945 in the 45th Infantry Division of the United States Army. He married Marilee Heron on August 31, 1946, at the Stanford University Chapel in Palo Alto, California. Vic was associated with the Post Corporation for over three decades, retiring in August of 1984 as President and CEO of the Appleton Post-Crescent. Prior to returning the Fox Valley, Vic was a war correspondent and was an Associated Press reporter, covering state government in Sacramento, California, for two years. He had a long and distinguished career in the Fox Valley. Vic was a past president of the Appleton Chamber of Commerce, Appleton Community Fund and Riverview Country Club; was a former director and past secretary of the Appleton YMCA; a member of the Governor’s Commission on Human Rights; past chairman of the Appleton Redevelopment Authority; former director of the Outagamie Blood Bank, the Fox Cities Baseball Club; chaired the United Way Fund Campaign; was a director at the First National Bank and a former member of St. Norbert College Board of Directors. He was also presented the Walter Rugland Award and the JC Distinguished Service Award. Vic was a lifelong Packer fan, enjoyed tennis and skiing, fishing, was an avid reader and piloted his own plane for 15 years, later donating it to charity. Survivors include his wife of 56 years; his daughter, Pauline (James) Dean; his sons, Timothy (Jeannie) Minahan and Thomas O. (Claire) Minahan; his grandchildren, Meaghan, Erin, Burke, Holly, Daniel and Millar. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Margaret, in 1949; his brother John B. Torinus, and his sister, Mary Walter. Memorial services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, March 4, 2003, at FIRST CONGREGATIONAL UNITED CHURCH OF CHRIST, 724 East South River Street, Appleton, with Rev. John T. McFadden officiating. Friends may call directly at the church on Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked any memorials be directed to the Community Foundation of the Fox River Region, Appleton Medical Center or the American Cancer Society. The family would like to extend a sincere thanks to the staff of ThedaCare Hospice and Home Instead for their loving care.
