Age 92, went to his eternal life on Wednesday, March 3, 2004 at home with his family at his side. Victor was born on October 12, 1911 in the town of Winchester to the late Fred and Anna (Winkler) Drews. He farmed on his family‘s farm, in the Town of Winchester until 1951at which time he moved to Appleton. On November 21, 1951he married his one true love, Ruth Devine. She preceded him in death on January 1, 1970. Victor had been employed at Miller Electric as a welder for 22 years. He worked part time as a night watchman for 20 years after his retirement in 1974. Victor had a great love of nature; enjoying gardening, fishing, traveling, or just going for a car ride. His two greatest treasures were his grandsons, Michael and Ross. He enjoyed spending time with them and especially enjoyed their taking him out for breakfast.
Victor will be deeply missed by his only daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Jerry Kolbe and grandsons: Michael and Ross Huven. Victor was especially blessed with an extended family which includes grandchildren: Corey and Rachel Kolbe, and Jessica and Gregg Gushard; great-grandchildren: Parker and Zachary Gushard, and Cameron, Carson and Annika Kolbe. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
Victor was preceded in death by his wife Ruth, his parents; 10 brothers and sisters: Martin, Emil, Harry, Elmer and Fred Drews; Hattie Bork, Clara Tews, Anna Bork, Frieda Frick, and Ruth Drews. He is further survived by sisters and bothers-in-law and nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 6, 2004, at St. Matthew Ev. Lutheran Church, where he had been a member for over 50 years, 129 South Mason Street, with Rev. Jeff Verbecke and Rev. Paul Schuler officiating. Friends will be received at the church from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial will be at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, March 8, at St. Mary Cemetery, Appleton. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Victor’s name.
The family would especially like to thank the entire staff of the Renaissance Assisted Care Living for their unwavering care and support of Victor throughout the six-plus years he had lived there. Your love and support greatly increased his quality of life. May God Bless you all. Further, a special thank you from the family to Dr. Robert Fox and his nurses, Barb and Kathy; and ThedaCare at Home Hospice, especially Suzie, for their care and support.
