Vernon Beschta, age 93, passed away Thursday, September 28, 2006 at the Rennes Health Center. He was born in Appleton on August 26, 1913, son of the late Matthew and Helen (Seif) Beschta. He married the former Eleanor Armitage on February 22, 1936; she survives. For many years Vernon was employed by Fox Tractor, which later became Koehring. He retired in the mid 1970’s. Vernon enjoyed building boats, spending time on the water, fishing, and gardening. He was an admitted sports nut, and was an avid fan of the Green Bay Packers.
Survivors include his wife: Eleanor Beschta of Appleton; four children: Duane (Judy) Beschta of Lake Nebagamon; James (Nancy) Beschta of Marysville, Washington; Robert (Charlaine) Beschta of Corvallis, Oregon; Joanne (Keith) Werth of Hortonville; twenty grandchildren; twenty-six great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; two sisters: Helen Casey of Appleton and Beatrice Schuh of Oshkosh; two sisters-in-law: Ella Armitage of Florida and Gladys Armitage of Appleton; and three brothers-in-law: Donald (Lois) Armitage of Madison; Wesley (Jean) Armitage of Omaha, Nebraska; and Merlin (Susan) Armitage of Texas. Vernon was preceded in death by his parents, brothers (Leonard) Olive Beschta and Butch (Lucille) Beschta, and brothers-in-law Roy Casey, Frank Schuh, Harry Armitage, Calvin Armitage, Rodney (Henrietta) Armitage, and Emerson Armitage.
Funeral Services for Vernon will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, October 4, 2006 at the Star of Hope Chapel at Highland Memorial Park in Appleton. Friends may call directly at the cemetery chapel on Wednesday from 10:30 AM until the hour of the service. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund is being established for the American Diabetes Association.
