Verna Pauly, age 91, passed away Wednesday, May 17, 2006 at the Appleton Medical Center. Verna was born December 6, 1914 in Tomahawk, Wisconsin, daughter of the late John and Mary (Lange) Gorman. She was a graduate of the Horace Mann High School in North Fond Du Lac, and after raising her daughters, decided to enroll at the University of Wisconsin – Oshkosh where she received her degree in education. She found work teaching 4th grade at Franklin School in Oshkosh, and enjoyed many years there.
Verna was a longtime resident of Fond du Lac, and eventually retired to Bemidji, Minnesota where she was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, and enjoyed gardening and fishing. In the early 1990’s, she relocated to Appleton.
Survivors include two daughters: Louise (David) Powell of Clarendon Hills, Illinois and Mary Jo Pauly of Appleton; a grandson: Keith Powell of Skokie, Illinois; three grandsons: Nathaniel, Matthew, and William Powell; and a sister-in-law: Catherine (Nicholas) Wagner of Chicago. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Raymond in 1984, a brother James (Virginia) Gorman, and a sister Margaret (Lovell) McCulloch.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, May 22, 2006 in the chapel of Ledgeview Memorial Park in Fond du Lac. Rev. Barbara Carmichael of First Presbyterian Church in Fond du Lac will officiate. Friends may gather at the cemetery chapel on Monday after 10:30 am.
