Thomas Maurice Berton, age 81 born July 1, 1939 in Shawano, Wisconsin to George and Lucille Berton passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his loving family on April 24, 2021 in Neenah, WI. Tom graduated from Bonduel High School, excelled in basketball and continued that passion into adulthood. He served in the Army’s 101st Airborne Battle Group 506th Infantry. During his time in the military, he completed 49 airborne jumps between June 19, 1957 through June 18, 1963.
Tom met his wife Barbara Jean Foster during his military service and married in Shawnee Town, Illinois November 20, 1959. They have since resided in Neenah, WI. Tom was employed with Kimberly Clark Corp. until his retirement in 1996. Tom was an avid sports and outdoorsman with a memorable sense of humor and a passion for fishing, especially family canoe trips, hunting, running marathons, and triathlons, playing classical piano, golfing, and swimming. He enjoyed woodworking and spent his retirement working with the Lyons Club of Larsen, WI. He also enjoyed reading bible scripture and sharing the word of God through bible studies.
Tom M. Berton is survived by wife Barbara, daughters, and a son: Cindy (Mike) Weiland, Mitzie Dedering, Lisa Kaye, Pamela (David) Marta, Annette (Gary) Thiel, Ryan (Julie) Berton. Also, his grandchildren: Nicole Rickertsen, Kimberly Boesch, James Dedering, Matthew, Timothy, and Daniel Marta, Jordanne and Samuel Theil, Zoe and Alma Berton and 10 great grandchildren. He also is survived by his brother and sisters: George K. Berton, Menasha; Marsha (George) Davis, Sherwood; Diane (Robert) Bohm, Green Bay; Wayne (Linda) Berton, Neenah; Patty (Tony) Boulanger, Green Bay; Peter (Iris) Berton, Hawaii; Randy Berton, Milwaukee as well as many other relatives and friends.
Preceding him in death were his parents, his beloved son Arnold “Eli Blue” or “Arnie” Berton, brothers: Larry, Jeffery, Randle Berton, sister Joan Oberle, and her husband, Jim Oberle and sisters-in-law, Carol Berton and Marilyn Berton.
Funeral Services for Thomas will be on Thursday, April 29, 2021 at 11:00am the Wichmann Funeral Homes, Laemmrich Chapel, 312 Milwaukee Street in Menasha with Rev. Paul Hinz officiating. There will be a gathering before the service at the funeral home from 9:00am to 11:00am. Burial with full Military Honors will be at Graceland Cemetery in Clintonville.
