Sylvia E. Winkler, 93, of Brillion, passed away Wednesday, June 15, 2005, at Willowdale Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, New Holstein.
Sylvia was born January 1, 1912, in High Cliff, the daughter of the late Robert and Louise (Meyer) Funk. She was raised at High Cliff, where she enjoyed swimming in Lake Winnebago, ice skating in the winter, and tobogganing and skiing on High Cliff hill. She moved to Appleton to work as a waitress and she received her GED at the technical school. Sylvia then started working in ladies ready to wear stores.
She married R.J. Winkler, M.D. of Hilbert and they had two children, Joelene and Donald. She later divorced Dr.Winkler and remained in Hilbert for over 50 years. She was a former member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church. Sylvia enjoyed vegetable and flower gardening, fancy work, walking, and reading.

Survivors include a sister-in-law, four nephews, cousins, many friends, and two special friends, Joyce and Willie Krepline, of Hilbert. Her children, Donald and Joelene, preceded her in death.

Memorial services for Sylvia will be at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, June 18, 2005, at FAITH UNITED METHODIST CHURCH, 204 Horn Street, Brillion, with Rev. Susan Gaul officiating. Friends may call from noon Saturday until the time of services directly at the church.
