Sven "Ingvar" Holmqvist

HOLMQVIST, SVEN “INGVAR”

Age 79, of Appleton, died on Monday, December 20, 2004 at his home of cholangia carcinoma. Ingvar was born in Sjovestad, Sweden, on June 24, Midsommer Day, in 1925, eldest son of the late Ernst and Anna (Jonsson) Holmqvist. He was preceded in death by his wife Inga (Carlson). Ingvar married June (Jensen) on July 7, 1990, and immigrated to America. He is survived by his children, Ewacarin and Sven-Olaf of Malmo, Sweden; his grandson, Nikolas; his sisters, Gunnel; Sonja, Ulla; his brother, Olle; and his three step-children, David, Stan (Karen) and Steve.

Ingvar was a member of the Fox Valley Swedish Society, where he shared tradition by baking torte and Easter pastries. He enjoyed soccer, travel and dancing. Jeopardy! and Wheel of Fortune held his attention both in Sweden and the United States. Ingvar was also a parent-advocate, involving the rights for disabled and handicapped children, students and adults.

Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Thursday, January 6, 2005, at Wichmann Funeral Home, TRI-COUNTY CHAPEL, Menasha, with Rev. Donna Miller officiating. Visitors will be received at the funeral home on Thursday, January 6, 2005 from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established in his name to benefit cancer research. The family would like to extend a sincere thank you to the staff at ThedaCare at Home for their loving care.
