Lundberg, Suzanne A.
Suzanne A. Lundberg, age 72, of Appleton, died peacefully in her sleep on Friday morning, June 2, 2006. Sue was born October 25, 1933 to the late William Edward and Luella (Landguth) Bargholtz, in Madison, Wisconsin. She spent her early childhood in Reeseville, WI and the remainder of her childhood in Ashland, WI. Sue attended the University of Wisconsin – Madison, graduating with a degree in economics in 1955. She was a member of the Delta Zeta sorority. She worked for Shusters Department Store in Milwaukee before marrying John D. Lundberg, also of Ashland, in 1960 and raising two daughters, Sandy and Terri. She and John moved to the Appleton area in 1960.
Sue valued many organizations and contributed her time to Appleton Medical Center, Mosquito Hill Nature Center, Meals on Wheels, the Children’s Museum and a children’s reading group, among several other organizations and charities over the years. Steadfast in her faith, she was also an active member of Faith Lutheran Church.
Sue pursued many interests during her life. She enjoyed golf, tennis, and cross-country skiing. She loved to travel throughout the U. S. and abroad, and she particularly liked the Rocky Mountains. Sue was an avid reader, birder, and plant and nature enthusiast. She also loved music, enjoyed playing the piano, and loved a good game of bridge. Sue was also a very good photographer. She was a Badger football fan and a Packer fan… when they played well. Sue often said she wished most to instill in her children and grandchildren a sense of curiosity and a desire to learn. She succeeded in doing this and her life is her best example.
Sue loved her family and many friends and neighbors she knew throughout her life. Each was special to her; none more so than her beloved cats, Polar Bear and Scooter. As her friends often said, “oh, to be a Lundberg cat!”
Sue is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Sandy Lundberg and Don Schmucki, Germantown, WI; Terri Lundberg and Arnold Whitman, Alpharetta, GA; three grandchildren, Nicole, Jack and August; her sister, Betsey (Clayton) McKinney, De Forest, WI; her brother, Bill (Jeanne) Bargholtz, Palmyra, WI; her brother-in-law, John R. Ostrom; her sister-in-law, Jeanne Uptain; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, John D. Lundberg on November 12, 2000 and a sister, Peggy Carothers on March 16, 1977.
Funeral services for Sue will be held at 11:00 am, Tuesday, June 6, 2006, at FAITH LUTHERAN CHURCH, 601 East Glendale Avenue, with Reverend Paul R. Brinkman officiating. Entombment will be in Riverside Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday, from 4 to 8 pm and on Tuesday at the church from 10:00 am, until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Faith Lutheran Church or Mosquito Hill Nature Center, N3880 Rogers Road, New London, WI 54961.
