Susan A. Ernst

Susan entered eternal life on December 1, 2024, at ThedaCare Medical Center in Neenah. Sue was born in Milwaukee on July 6, 1945, the oldest of four children of Lyle and Betty (Schneider) May.

Following her graduation from Wauwatosa West High School, she married Ron Ernst in Wauwatosa on April 8, 1967. Together they enjoyed traveling and music. She was an active volunteer who enjoyed singing and helping those in need. She served on the board of directors for Lutheran Brotherhood Branch 8638, the AAL (Thrivent) Branch, and the Neighborhood Nursery School. She enjoyed animals, decorating, and craft projects. Sue was also a longtime and faithful member of Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Appleton.

Sue is survived by her husband Ron Ernst; two children: Amy (David) Werner of Appleton and Andrew (Julie) Ernst of Darboy; four grandchildren: Alayna May Werner, Savanna Joy Werner, Karson Ernst, and Ava Ernst. There are also two brothers: Thomas May and Timothy (Susan) May; and a sister Carol (Tom) Behrend.

Sue was preceded in death by her parents, a godchild Keith Belkye, sisters-in-law: Barbara May, Beverley (Clarence) Belkye; a brother-in-law Roger Ernst, and her rescue dog Effie.

A celebration of Sue’s life will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, December 7, 2024, at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church, located at 3009 N. Meade Street. Rev. Kemp Jones will officiate, and burial will take place at New Elm Cemetery in the Town of Black Wolf. Visitation will take place directly at the church on Saturday morning from 11:00 AM until the time of the service at 1:00 PM. A memorial fund is established in Sue’s memory.

The family would like to thank all the staff at Oakridge Gardens in Menasha and ICU staff at ThedaCare in Neenah. Your kindness will never be forgotten.
