Stephen Erich Bumpus Sr., born on January 16, 1957, bid farewell to the world on November 15, 2023. His passing left a void in the lives of all who knew and loved him. Stephen was a devoted husband, a loving father, and a cherished friend. Stephen's patriotic spirit led him to serve in the United States Navy for 11 honorable years, attaining the rank of Petty Officer First Class as an Air Missile Defense Systems Technician. His Navy accomplishments filled him with immense pride, reflecting his dedication to serving his country with distinction.
It was through the language of love and a shared sense of humor that Stephen connected deeply with his dear wife, Sherry, joining in marriage on April 30th, 1997. Together they spoke the same language, finding strength in one another to weather life's challenges together.
Having retired from Neenah Paper after 22 years of dedicated service, Stephen had earned the respect and admiration of his colleagues. He approached his career with diligence and a strong work ethic. Beyond his professional accomplishments, Stephen's life was rich with cherished memories. He had a deep affection for animals, who brought immeasurable joy into his life, providing comfort and unwavering companionship.
Sports played a significant role in Stephen's life from an early age. In his youth, he enjoyed playing baseball and football passionately. As a dedicated fan of the Dallas Cowboys, he spent countless hours cheering on his favorite team. In later years, basketball became a cherished pastime that he shared with his children. Stephen's green thumb bloomed late in life as he became a gardening enthusiast. Exploring this newfound hobby brought him tranquility amidst nature's beauty, giving him a sense of fulfillment and contentment.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Sherry Bumpus, who stood by his side through thick and thin. His children Mandy (Joe) Allen, Stephen Erich Bumpus II, Dalynn (Tony) Doehler, Jesse T. (Jalina) Rueger, and Jeromy (Janil) Rueger will forever carry their father's love in their hearts.
Stephen also leaves behind a legacy of love through his grandchildren: Savanna Bumpus, Dakota Smith, Marley Allen, Tyler Bumpus, Spencer and Devanee Sprotte, Miracle Dohler, Drake Rueger, Ronin Rueger, Lejin Rueger, Sylas and Tieygan Rueger. Their lives were blessed with the joyous presence of a grandfather who loved them unconditionally.
He is survived by his brothers Joe W. (Julie) Bumpus and Jimmy Bumpus. Mother-in-law Mary Lou (Weber) Rueger and sister-in-law Jeanne R. (Dalton) ; along with numerous nieces, nephews, friends, and loved ones.
Stephen is preceded in death, by his brother Karl Bumpus and parents Joe D. and Dorothy "Dot" P. (Williams) Bumpus; father-in-law Leonard E. Rueger; and brothers-in-law Kenneth W. Rueger and Leonard E. Rueger II.
A celebration of Steve's life will occur on January 6th, 2024 from 10:00 am until 7:00 pm at the Menasha Senior Center, 116 Main Street, Menasha, WI 54952. Let us celebrate the remarkable life he led with gratitude, and may his soul find eternal peace.
