Sophie Ann Erce, 84, of Appleton, WI passed away peacefully at her home on Monday, September 14th, 2105, following a courageous battle with congestive heart failure and diabetes.
Sophie was born on March 21st, 1931, the Daughter of Isadore (Anton) and Magdalena Pierog. She grew up on the south side of Chicago helping her Mother at their candy store. Sophie attended St. Anne High School and Graduated in 1949. Sophie worked at both Appleton Oral Surgery Associates and Associated Appraisal of Appleton prior to her retirement.
Throughout her life, Sophie participated in various organizations. She was part of the Woman's Auxiliary for the Albany Shaker Heights Fire Department, NY. She was an avid bowler and participated in several USBC National Events. She loved ceramics and made many beautiful pieces for her family and friends. Sophie was a member of St. Pius X Catholic Church in Appleton, WI for 46 years.
Sophie loved spending time with her family and loved nothing more than a friendly game of Scrabble or Michigan Rummy. She enjoyed cooking her favorite dishes for the family (Lasagna, Kielbasa, Pierogies and of course her “Never Fail” Meatloaf), and don't forget her banana tort.
Sophie is survived by her husband of 58 years Richard Anton “Dick” Erce; five children Sandy (Mark) Peterson, Richard (Melanie) Erce, Lydia Erce, James (Jody) Erce and Mary (Mike) Kasten; eight grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
Sophie was preceded in death by her parents, Anton and Magdalena Pierog; sisters Mary Ann and Helen and her first husband John.
The funeral liturgy for Sophie will be held on Monday, September 21, 2015 at 11:30 AM at ST. PIUS X CATHOLIC CHURCH, 500 W. Marquette St., with Fr Thomas Farrell officiating. Entombment will be in the Highland Memorial Park. A time of visitation will be held on Sunday, September 20, 2015 from 2:00 until 6:00 PM at the Wichmann Funeral Home and on Monday from 10:30 AM until the time of the mass at Church.
