Shirley A. Schroeder

Shirley Ann (Klotzbuecher) Schroeder, age 90, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on October 1, 2023. She was born December 14, 1932 in Manawa, Wisconsin to Elmer and Elsie (Radtke) Klotzbuecher on the farmstead. Shirley graduated from Manawa High School and started working at Clintonville Community Hospital as a nurse’s aide. She then worked at Four Wheel Drive in Clintonville. Following her employment in Clintonville, she took a job at Aid Association for Lutherans (Thrivent) as a secretary. During that time she met and married Robert (Bob) Schroeder on September 6, 1969. They have lived at their home in Grand Chute since marriage.

Shirley worked at Thrivent for 27 years, going back to Thrivent for a couple years after retirement on a part-time basis. She was an active member at Faith Lutheran Church in Appleton, participating and leading bible studies. Shirley volunteered at Gardens of the Fox Cities for many years, being awarded Volunteer of the Year. Shirley and Bob owned a cottage in Winneconne together, and also did much traveling and fishing with family and friends. Shirley was an incredible bowler and did some golfing. She loved her many years of travel to the Amish for flowers and baked goods. Shirley and her husband enjoyed gardening and had a beautiful yard. She was a talented crafter. Shirley and Bob were very active in the care of their great niece, Annie Schraa, watching over her since infancy.

Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, Elmer and Elsie Klotzbuecher; her in-laws, Oscar and Martha Schroeder; along with her husband’s siblings and spouses.

Shirley is survived and will be missed by her husband, Robert. Her brother Lee (Alice) Klotzbuecher, Manawa, and sister Carol (Lee) Zuberbier, Oshkosh. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Services will be held on Monday, October 9, 2023 at Faith Lutheran Church at 601 Glendale Ave, Appleton. Visitation will be from 9:30 AM to 11:00 AM. Services to begin at 11:00 AM. Please join us in celebrating the life of Shirley Schroeder. Memorials in Shirley’s name can be given to Faith Lutheran Radio Broadcast or Faith Lutheran Comfort Dog program or just Faith Lutheran Church.
