Shirley Mae Vander Wielen, age 83, of Appleton, passed away peacefully on Friday, November 22, 2013 at the Santa Maria Nursing Home. Shirley was born on July 1, 1930, daughter of the late Arno and Ruth Zillges. Shirley married James John Vander Wielen at Mount Calvary Church in Kimberly in 1951. She enjoyed her work at Zwicker Knitting Mill for many years.
Shirley was a loving mother and wife who will always be remembered for her smile and kind heart. She was always happy and never complained. She enjoyed nature, birds and especially camping with family and friends. In her earlier years, she and James enjoyed boating and water skiing. Above all, she loved spending time with her family and friends. She was one of the most loved people in the world.
Shirley is survived by her three sons, Jim (Donna) of O'Fallon, MO, Jeff (Yulia) of San Diego, CA and Scott of Appleton, WI; her grandchildren, Ryan, Madison, Jessica Vander Wielen and Megan (James) Bisson. She will also be missed by her great grandchildren Zachary and William; and her sister Janet (Paul) Frakes. She is further survived by 12 nieces and nephews and many other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; sisters, Bernice Friday and Virginia Kohl; and brothers, Gordon Zillges and Russell Zillges.
A memorial service for Shirley will be held at 11:00 on Saturday, November 30, 2013 at the MT. CALVARY EV. LUTHERAN CHURCH (N8728 S. Coop Road, Menasha) with Rev. Jesse Johnston officiating. A time of visitation will be held from 9:30 until the time of service. Online condolences may be expressed at www.wichmannfargo.com.
