Age 74, went home to the Lord on Monday, December 23, 2002 after courageously battling leukemia. Shirley was born on October 2, 1928, daughter of the late Dymon and Marie (Boehme) Bachman. She was raised in Appleton, graduating from Appleton West High School in 1945. Shirley was employed at Schlaefer Supply Company and the Steinmetz Company. On May 14, 1949, Shirley married John Hamilton, and they enjoyed 48 years of marriage together. Shirley was a member of the Catholic Daughters, the VFW Womens’ Auxilliary and her high school reunion coordination team. She supported the St. Jude Children’s Hospital and St. Pius X Catholic Church, of which she was a long time member. Shirley loved traveling, camping, canoeing, theater, arts and crafts, bowling, playing bridge, and socializing with family and friends. She especially enjoyed spending time watching her beloved grandchildren. Shirley is survived by her children, Steven Hamilton, Memphis, TN; Susan Hamilton, Stevens Point, WI; Sharie (Chuck) Baum, and Kathy (Kurt) Hahlbeck, both of Appleton; her grandchildren, Trisha and Ryan Dobbs; Brittany and Chaz Baum; Nicholas, Sydney, Alex and Ethan Hahlbeck; and Steve’s granddogs, Bob, Millie and Sam. She was preceded in death by her husband, John in 1997, and their infant daughter. The Mass of Resurrection will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Friday, December 27, 2002 at ST. PIUS CATHOLIC CHURCH, 500 West Marquette Street, Appleton, with Rev. Donald Zuleger officiating. The interment will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Appleton. Friends will be received at the funeral home on Thursday, December 26 from 4 until 8 p.m., and again at the church on Friday from 10 a.m. until the time of service. A Prayer Service will be held at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations to benefit St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, Memphis, and the American Cancer Society are appreciated. The family would like to extend their gratitude to Shirley’s family and friends for their love and support, and also to Rosie, Dee, the Theda Care Staff and Donna, her compassionate caregiver. Shirley was a very strong woman who overcame many illnesses, empowered by the will to be here to watch her grandchildren grow.

God gives us friends and those we love
To share our days on earth.
He watches us with loving care
And takes us by the hand.
He blesses us with countless joys
And guides the lives we've planned.
Then when our work on earth is done
He calls us to His side
To live with Him in Happiness
Where Peace and Love Abide.
