Shirley Gertrude Theresa (Cochrane) Hanford

Shirley Gertrude Theresa Cochrane Hanford (or SGTC as she called herself) passed away on July 17, 2018 in Appleton, Wisconsin. Shirley was born in Texas June 13, 1927 and lived in the Chicago area until moving to Appleton. After retiring from Kjos Music, Shirley and her mother became permanent residents of Appleton. During her many decades in Appleton, she enjoyed her Little Diner chats with her dear friend Marilyn Peterson and was an active member of the Civic League and participated in many plays and events sponsored by Thompson's Center on Lourdes. When she wasn't at the center, you could find Shirley and her friends literally getting down to whatever music was playing on the dance floor. Shirley could do the twist all the way to the ground and all the way back up well into her 80s. She retired her dancing shoes while enjoying her last years at Carolina Assisted Living.

Shirley is survived by her son, Robert (Kim) Hanford; grandchildren, David (Rebecca) Hanford and Tamara (Richard) Scholtz; and great-grandchildren, Carlin and Shepard.

She was preceded in death by her mother Gertrude Cochrane, also of Appleton, and her husband Edwin Hanford.

A Celebration of Life will be held for Shirley on Monday, July 23, 2018, 11 AM at the Wichmann-Fargo Funeral Home, 537 N. Superior St., Appleton, with Rev. Dennis Ellisen officiating. Friends may visit at the funeral home from 10 AM until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers, please laugh and smile when you remember “Shirl” and offer any donations to Thompson's Center on Lourdes.
