Sharyl LaFaive passed away on Saturday, July 3rd, 2021 at the age of 60 after battling endometrial cancer. Sharyl was born on September 14, 1960, in Neenah to Agnes I. Rogge, née Nauer, and Shirley W. “Billy” Rogge. She graduated Neenah High School in 1978. Sharyl married her best friend Al on August 20th, 1983. In 1998 they traveled to Nanning, China to adopt their daughter, Monica. In 2001 they traveled to Chengdu, China to adopt their son Nick. Sharyl worked as the secretary at Nicolet Elementary School, Menasha.
Sharyl was very active in the community. She was the driving force behind the Northeast Wisconsin Families with Children from China (NEW FCC). She organized many events including dance lessons, Chinese New Year celebrations, Harvest Moon Festivals, and the East Meets West performance at the PAC in Appleton. Sharyl organized many diversity and cultural events at her children’s schools. She had a unique talent for organizing and planning. She also enjoyed participating in many community events such as Porchapalooza.
In her spare time, Sharyl loved to travel. She enjoyed taking trips with her family to Gulf Shores, AL, Chicago, IL, and Mackinac Island, MI. She was an excellent seamstress and sewed many clothes for her children. During the pandemic, she sewed masks for family and friends. In the summer, she enjoyed spending time outdoors on her front porch with a beautiful view of the gardens planted by her husband. Sharyl had an indominable spirit with a zeal for life. Her positive attitude and caring heart were felt by all who knew her. She loved spending time with all her friends and family. Sharyl was a loving wife and mother.
Sharyl is survived by her husband Al, two children Monica and Nick, and her brother, Pat (Chris) Rogge. Sharyl was preceded in death by her parents.
The family wishes to extend their sincerest gratitude to Dr. Shamsuddin Virani of the Aurora Healthcare Vince Lombardi Cancer Clinic for his compassionate care.
Funeral services for Sharyl will be held on Friday, July 16 at 11:00 am at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, 324 Nicolet Blvd, Menasha. Visitation will be held on Thursday, July 15 from 4:00pm – 6:00pm at the Wichmann Funeral Home, Laemmrich Chapel, 312 Milwaukee St, Menasha, and again on Friday at the Church from 10:00 am until the time of the Mass. Inurnment will be at Holy Cross Cemetery, Marquette, MI.
In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Aurora Medical Center Burlington – Vince Lombardi Cancer Clinic program or the American Cancer Society in Sharyl’s name are appreciated.
