Sharon Zahn 92, of Appleton, died peacefully at St. Elizabeth Hospital supported by her children and family members on February 2nd, 2023. Sharon, the only child of Harry and Irene Dietz, was born July 5th, 1930. She jokingly referred to herself as “a leftover firecracker “. She attended St. Joseph's Elementary School, Appleton High School and graduated from Milwaukee State Teachers College where she met the love of her life, John "Jack" Zahn. They married May 1, 1954 and raised six children: Rick (Rosan) Zahn, Bob (Susan) Zahn, Lori (Jerry) Deering, Greg Zahn (Nelson Perez Meza), Jim Zahn and David Zahn. Strong in their Catholic faith, Sharon and Jack were founding and longtime members of St Pius X Church. Jack preceded Sharon in death in 2013.
Sharon loved the outdoors, especially golfing and gardening. She was always a good sport for Jack’s spontaneous road trips. Sharon was a resourceful cook, a clever and fashionable seamstress, a talented artist, as well as a competitive Bridge, Sheepshead, Gin Rummy and Rummikub player.
Always pitching in, Sharon was a member of King’s Daughters, volunteered at Father Carr’s and welcomed parish members at St Pius and at St Mary Magdalene Church in Waupaca. She resided at St. Paul home in Kaukauna where she helped out with decorating, bulletin work and occasionally leading her peers in chair exercises. Nicknamed “Saint Speedy” as she was always on the move.
Sharon is survived by her six children, nine grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
She received compassionate care in her final days at St Elizabeth Hospital where she also began her life on earth.
The family would especially like to express their gratitude to staff, clergy and volunteers of St Paul Elder Services for providing her a caring, safe and spiritual home over the last five years. Sharon always said “I couldn’t be in a better place”. She knew she would come to her final home with the Lord, the best place of all.
Private services will be held for the comfort of the family.
