Selma M. Fulcer, age 85, was called to her heavenly home while sleeping peacefully on Monday, January 9, 2006. She was greeted with open arms by her Lord and Savior and her husband of sixty-eight years, Warren. Warren went to his heavenly home four months ago on August 29, 2005, and they are now reunited for eternity.
Selma was born in Oconto Falls on February 26, 1920, daughter of the late Carl and Louise (Wolf) Lust. Selma became the wife of Warren Fulcer on October 14, 1937. The couple made their home in Appleton where Selma devoted herself as a wife and mother to her family. Thank goodness Selma knew how to do housekeeping, cooking, and sewing, as this was the era of the Great Depression. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, painting, playing cards, and spending time up north at the lake. She took pleasure in sharing her handicrafts with her children and grandchildren. Selma spread joy to her family by remembering their birthdays and anniversaries with greeting cards decorated with her own individual touch. She was a member of the Homemaker’s Guild, the Ladies Aide of Mount Olive Lutheran Church in Appleton, as well as at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Breed, Wisconsin.
Selma is survived by six children: Donald (Mary) Fulcer of Appleton; Nancy (Karl ) Dean of Dayton, Ohio; Jack (Darlene) Fulcer of Greenville; William (Christine) Fulcer of New Berlin; Ben Fulcer of Appleton; and Kurt (Laura) Fulcer of Appleton; fifteen grandchildren: Jim (Dawn) Fulcer, Patty Fischer and her special friend Pat Hennessy, John (Joan) Fulcer, Sarah (Kevin) Klein, Karen Dean, Michael (Mary) Dean, Lisa (Rick) Berge, Ryan (Heather) Fulcer, Mark (Rebecca) Fulcer, Jeffrey (Gael) Fulcer, Aaron Fulcer and his finacee Maureen Cullen, Benjamin Fulcer, Alyssa Fulcer, Joshua Fulcer, and Rachel Fulcer; sixteen great-grandchildren; two sisters: Gladys Krause of Burlington and Gretchen (Bruce) Grape of Holcomb; three brothers: Robert Lust of Kaukauna and his special friend Gloria, James (Sue) Lust of Port Orange, Florida, and Kenny (Sue) Lust of Appleton; a sister-in-law: Grace Lust of Arizona.
In addition to her dearly beloved husband Warren, Selma was preceded in death by her parents, an infant daughter Jeanette, a grandson Brian Dean, two grandsons-in-law Paul Weber and Jason Fischer, a great-granddaughter Dani Fischer; a brother Arthur “Buddy” Lust, a brother-in-law S. J. Krause, sisters-in-law Margaret Lust and Katie Hahn.
The funeral service for Selma will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, January 11, 2006, at the Wichmann Funeral Home, 537 N. Superior Street, with Rev. Paul Scheunemann officiating. Interment will be in Community Lutheran Cemetery in Freedom. Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday from 9:00 AM until the time of the services. In lieu of flowers, the family is establishing a memorial fund in Selma’s name.
Selma’s family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the many kind and loving people that cared for her. They include all of the wonderful caregivers at The Renaissance and Rennes Care Center. You are a special group of dedicated and extraordinary people, and we want you to know how much we appreciate all you’ve done.
A loved one’s final thoughts are priceless. These are the words Selma left her family: “I am at peace with God. Love one another, and have faith in God.”
